This is on my laptop, not my DAW, which is still W-8.1. Everything is wonderful on the DAW... however, I have Sonar on my laptop too. I rarely use it on my laptop but I'd like for it to work in case I want to use it and until now it did.
I upgraded to W-10 and just opened it but it was not until yesterday that I tried to use it.
It loads but it stops before any sort of start screen and just sits (I also tried X-3 and had the same problems). I accidentally found the way to make it work by right clicking the icon on the taskbar and choosing to close the program. It does not close when I take that action but the message box pops up that tells me I have no output set for the metronome. I click OK and then Sonar loads HOWEVER, the Control Bar at the top is inactive, greyed out IIRC, (I'm on my DAW now I'm defragging my laptop after seeing that suddenly the drive was almost full, I deleted some music and got back to about 40gb of free space on a 500gb drive)... so,
I also bumped into the "fix" to make the Control Bar work. Clicking on the Now Time slider activates the Control Bar.
I was able to play back a project. I didn't try recording anything yet.
I downloaded Reaper last week, just to look at.. I have no intentions of taking the time to learn another DAW but anyway, I imported a couple of tracks from North is False into Reaper tracks and they player there too and everything seemed to work. I don't know if knowing that helps or not but I thought I'd throw it in since I tried it and it seemed to work fine.
The only thing I've done other than tweak what ever privacy settings I can on W-10 was to update CCCleaner and run it.
I wish I had tried working with SPLAT or X3 before I did that, but if wishes were....
Since both X3 and Platinum are having the same weird it makes me think that it isn't a problem with the programs but I don't have any idea what could cause this sort of behavior.
So, any ideas of what I can do? Anything to check? I'll be out for a while this evening so I may be able to check back later today or it may be tomorrow. The C drive didn't need to be defragmented at 9% but I ran it anyway. System is 12% and it recommends a defrag, and I will but it is set to automatically check and run every week.
One other thing... I don't remember how much free space I had a month or two ago but it wasn't under 20gb like was last night.
Could W-10 be using up a LOT of space? I am considering rolling back to W-7 on the laptop unless it has been too long or I removed what I needed for a rollback when I ran CCCleaner.
Dang it. Maybe I should get a new HD...
Thank you.
