  • Melodyne - sounds very strange with even just one note

Hey all,

I'm in Melodyne (Sonar X3) - and I just made a really small pitch adjustment to one single note (about +9 cents), and now that note sounds really weird and robotic, and not at all like the other ones.  And I just made very small pitch adjustment.   What's worse,  when I do an Undo and return to the original pitch I sang,  the robotic weird tone did not go away.      Is there a setting or something I missed?

Hi. Does it sound like that if you render the effect? And what buffer size do you use? Celemony recommends minimum 1024.
Best of luck.

I thought I changed the buffer from 256 to 1024 but it didn't seem to help so I might have changed it in the right place.   I changed it in Edit --> Prefs --> Audio --> Sync and Caching --> File System

Is there another place I should change it in?

Also,  I'm using ASIO drivers on a Tascam US600.    So all the Latency settings at Edit -> Prefs -> Audio -> Device Settings are grayed out and I can't select them.

I did set my Latency for "Lowest" in the Tascam's control panel, but that didn't seem to help at all.

When Melodyne recommends a buffer size of 1024 it refers to your audio interface driver buffers not the one's you have changed (they're your disk read/write buffers.) I'm not sure why your interface buffer options are greyed out. In any case, I've successfully edited many clips at lower buffer sizes than 1024, even though Melodyne will give you the message to change it.

I thought I read somewhere (can't remember where...) that if you are using ASIO mode that your latency setting will be grayed out like mine are, but I don't know if that's true because I can't remember where that is.   I have the very latest drivers for my Interface, too.  Wish I could figure this out :)   will keep trying ... may have to place another call to CW support on Tuesday.

Is there a box anywhere that has ASIO Panel written on it? That should get you in to your interface's driver options. The Buffer Size slider thingy might be greyed out but you should still be able to access your interface's buffer settings through the ASIO Panel.

Yeah, the button with ASIO Panel on it takes me to my TASCAM US600 control panel.   In there the only thing marked Latency is a dropdown menu called "Audio Performance"  and it is already set to "Lowest Latency".

I would recommend that you increase the buffer to medium or high, during Melodyne editing.
Best of luck.

Tried that this morning - moved the Latency in my Tascam control panel to "High Latency"   - still had no effect on the strange robotic sound of that one note in my Melodyne clip.
