I know... I should know this but I'm in a situation where I need to start recording, take a few steps, grab my guitar, sit, and start playing. I want to start the track and metronome track but start recording at the 4th or 8th measure. I'm using ADD2 in the metronome track  and it works OK but I may go to a click track if I can figure out how to do this.
If there is a better way, please tell me. I looked up what I could and I think it said to use the clips inspector and I'm looking at the Platinum Reference Guide now but thought I'd ask here too. I do have a Frontier Tranzport... maybe I should just use that. I have W 8.1 on my DAW.

Then again, am I overthinking this. Should I just start when I can and then move the start time back to where ever I want it? I guess that makes more sense.
I'm finally getting to the point where I can put more time into this.. so I'll probably have some beginner questions.

The beauty of non-linear recording is that it's non-linear 
 
Often when songwriting I'll start recording and end up with a chorus hook first. Then a whole bunch of measures after noodling around and creating all kinds of crap, I'll play something that would make a great verse. And so on.
 
After I stop recording, I cut out the crap, keep the good parts, and move 'em around on the timeline. Or maybe delete some stuff. Or go to measure 200 so it's out of the way of everything, then do some more recording that ends up back at the beginning if it makes the cut.
 
It's a beautiful thing, especially because trying to do this kind of stuff with tape required a Doctorate degree in Frustration Tolerance.

I'm trying to do vocals for a friend. I had to redo the lyrics a bit and the "scratch track" I got was a bad synth track so, I've arranged, am doing an acoustic track, then vocals, and trying to make something nice of it.
It is much easier to work on something of my own.
