  • Recommended Hardware?

I'm sure this is an ignorant question but is there a recommended hardware list for Sonar?
My MOTU I/O died a few weeks ago so I went out and dropped 2K on a brand new UAD Apollo Quad firewire interface. Since then, I've gotten continuous audio dropouts with Sonar, even when playing a single stereo audio track with everything else muted. I have next to zero DPC latency according to LatencyMon, but I'm getting a lot of interrupt processing latency when I'm using Sonar.
It kind of looks like a UI issue, the display momentarily freezes during playback with an accompanying audio dropout. This is happening regardless of my ASIO buffer settings. I can actually see the UI get out of sync with the song position when it happens, the UI tends to lag the audio.
Is Firewire not recommended for use with Sonar?
If not, what interface should I be using to get the best performance without dropouts?
What audio hardware is guaranteed to work?

Hi. Which version of UAD software do you use? I do not think the newest version of UAD software works on Win 7.
IIRC version 7.8 works with Win 7.
Best of luck.

Sir Les
Do you have a video card with HDMI audio?...
Or is the PC Asus z87+ HDMI using on board video?

Issues being memory , and or how the video card and or memory is accessed....While using ASIO, and firewire.

Should if you do not have a video card, get one with at least 1meg of memory...

With that sorted...You may need some tweaking of the System ...Turning off redundant devices....To free up any sharing MS likes to do.

And the testing phase of that...might help?

Cheers.

And what kind of firewire card do you have? UA needs a Texas Instruments firewire chip.

Re Firewire: I have used a Focusrite "Saffire LE" Firewire Audio/Midi interface with Sonar for years with no trouble from Sonar 8 through to Platinum H.  I do use a TI Firewire chip as recommended by Focusrite.

WRT zero latency, it seems to me if ASIO parameters are set too low then you will get uneven performance.  I did turn off the other audio drivers as suggested elsewhere on the CW site. I also turn off the internet connection to avoid pops and clicks.

Cheers

I think I got it sorted. I switched the display from the onboard video to a dedicated graphics card and things seem to be much smoother. Thanks.

Glad you got it working
