The Now Time is indeed a way to get an extra level of accuracy down into bus pane but does pose some problems within my workflow. Before I got used to Aim Assist I did actually (and n00bishly) use the NT for nailing down specific points on the on the vertical axis.
Of course the NT is fixed and requires specific actions to move (I have disabled the Set Now Time on left click because it was really annoying to me in general workflow). On top of that I have become quite deterred from having the Now Time anywhere near areas where I plan to do HID (click) actions in the Track View because it seems to overide certain input commands when you click exactly where the NT is. Generally the only thing I set the NT for to cause an action are for basic keyboard commands like making a split (S) or inserting a marker (M). I'm sure if I spent some more time studying the various tool behavior and keybindings that interact with the Now Time marker I could feel a little more relaxed with it being in my work area but you know how it is... there is a mountain of methods and once you find a workflow that works it's hard to break habits and prejudices.
The one thing I will be looking into though if I can ever get over this current period of lethargy (my body, mind and external life factors seem to be imposing a small end of summer break/vacation on me) is what key and/or tool commands will induce single and double nodes to be added based on NT position. Like "Select Envelope/Lane > Set Now Time > Press ??? = Inserts Single Node" or "Select Envelope/Lane > Set Now Time > Press ??? = Inserts Two Nodes"
I am of course more interested in the two node insertion so I can just grab the line in between two points where I have performed this action and adjust just that section without any diagonal wackiness causing anything other than a consistent parameter adjustment for that entire range. So I drag the line down by -6db or whatever I get a -6db for that entire range.
As you can see... I just need a full on study of automation and to spend some time putting it into action so it sticks. It would likely provide some good workarounds for this issue and a mountain of others.
I just gotta get my head back in the game. I'm burnt out after a very busy year studying and using the program.
Maybe this weekend.
Cheers.
