  • Extend the Aim Assist line through the Bus Pane for Automation Envelope Editing? (p.2)

Since this post won't unnecessarily bump the thread (it's still at the top) I just thought I'd mention that a) the above ramble was more just me thinking outloud (well typing) for my own problem solving process and to hopefully kickstart my seemingly lethargic brain back into it all and b) not really pertininent to the specific task that inspired this because I realized a better workaround for the problem. Of course I'll still need to do this type of stuff in the future (very near future I'm assuming) so the point is still valid.

Basically (and again just thinking out loud) my "problem" was I have two MIDI tracks I wanted to turn down for a section. Since they are both feeding a bus I figured I'd just turn down the bus. I'm not even really sure I like that change and want to easily change it back (to try turning something else down instead because there are three possibly conflicting instruments in the parts that all sound okay in pairs but not all three at once for whatever reason).

Now the only reason I'd be able to make this change at bus level is because each of the three parts (all of which are comprised of multiple tracks... eg: 4 audio guitar parts, 2 MIDI orchestral parts, 2 MIDI synth parts) go to their own busses. If for whatever reason I had not set up individual busses for those groups of tracks I would not even be able to do this type of automation at bus level (without screwing with the routing and setting up busses for each parts).

Instead I will be creating splits in the MIDI and audio clips around the section in question and muting the clip sections of whatever I deem to be the instrumentation that gets voted off the island.

Of course if I just needed to TURN DOWN those clips or add some other type of momentary effect I would need a different plan... and likely want to do it at bus level (but ideally I'd want to group the automation envelopes across the tracks which apparently isn't possible based on my previous threads from a week or so ago).

So yeah... I think I may be getting wackier in my scheming and plotting which is why my posts might shift more into these types of problem solving questions/stream of consciousness rants/feature requests.

IDK... I just like a lot of strategies which the program provides. Of course there could always be more.. and simpler methods. I also seem to need a sounding board for ideas even if I'm only talking to myself. Might knock loose ideas for others in similar predicaments so I don't feel bad (mostly... lol).

The Aim Assist bus omission is a huge limitation and I don't know what they were thinking. If it's possible to draw automation on bus lanes then you need Aim Assist there. I realize they'd need to draw two separate lines because it's two separate panes, but surely this is elementary stuff.

The closest I've gotten to a workaround is to position the lane I'm drawing automation in at the top of the bus pane so that the Aim Assist line is as close as possible to it - at least you can get ballpark positioning that way. But man, as it is, Aim Assist is a feature that was only half implemented and forgotten about.

Cool. Maybe Mudgel will want to add this to that list/archive of user created tools and doodads he's got going?
