  • Comping mode (vs Sound on Sound) - what is it good for? (p.2)

I have been using the comp mode a lot recently. However when it comes time to do punch in I will switch to sound on sound, split the original clip to open up the area I want to replace and record. I do not use the punch points although that would work also.

I wonder if I enable the record punch points and promote a section leading up to the punch in point will comping mode mute my promoted section?

I may have to try that.

Ok I just tested my idea and it does work ... kinda.
If you record at least one take. setup punch recording and start recording before the punch in it does not mute the lead in portion of the previous take.

If you want several takes of the punch section just setup loop points that are larger than the punch in section. Then you can hit that once section over and over with the lead in as long as you need to get comfortable before each take.

So you can have your cake a eat it too if I understand what the OP is wanting to do.

Never did understand the expression "to have your cake and eat it too".

What would be the point of having a cake you couldn't eat? To eat a cake one has to have a cake. Doh! Lol

You can have your cake until you eat it. Then you no longer have the cake. Unless you have more than one cake and all bets are off.

You could eat someone else's cake and still have your own for later :-)
