I Just installed Win10 x64 and installed the Glouster and Hopkin updates for Sonar Platinum.  Now several programs including SONAR open a "User control" box warning me that this program is going to change my computer and do I want to let it, yes or no.  I want this to go away.  Following other instructions, e.g. with jbridge, I went into properties/ compatibility tab, and selected run as administrator.  This made the jbridge errors go away, but still, when I run Sonar I get the User control box.  How do I make this go away and not open - default to yes?

Thanks!!

When installing an application this is normal, this is protecting your security and you need to run this.

If you are running an application such as Sonar and it's asking for administrator access, you can disable run as administrator in the shortcut properties.

If you are enabling run as administrator that's what will happen, you have to live with clicking YES each time you run an app. That's just the way it works. You really should not be running the application as administrator anyway but sometimes you have to. You maybe should research other workarounds such as registry permission hacks if your software is not working correctly. Ultimately you want to stop running jbridge as admin. Try and get a 64 bit plugin to replace what you are using for instance (get rid of 32 bit plugins! :) ).

If you value your security DO NOT turn off UAC. MS have not intended this technology just to nag you. Again DO NOT turn off UAC I cannot stress this enough.

I would also do a routine virus scan and malware scan (with something like Malwarebytes).

Cheers.

My understanding is that you can disable those notifications without actually disabling UAC. I don't have W10 yet, but I'd start with the control panel and look for a checkbox labeled "constantly pester me with warning dialogs" and un-check it.

The whole point of UAC is to warn you that a program needs administrator access. This could be a virus or a piece of malware. If the answer is Yes by default you put your security at risk. Please DO NOT disable this. I cannot stress this enough.

It is called USER access control, not computer access control.

if you know how windows works, only install legit software, and don't spend time on dodgy websites, you can disable UAC - otherwise just live with it...
in windows 10, search (win+S) for "uac"

Viruses happen on legit websites every so often, they can get hacked. Staying away from dodgy websites isn't going to make your system perfectly safe and secure. People often make mistakes clicking on the wrong link, and occasionally legit apps are distributed with viruses by accident. Your friend might also send you an infected file by accident. If you know the way windows works you would keep it on!

If you want the full detail on why you should never turn it off:

Some folks here are missing the point, I think.
I encountered the same behavior as OP, in that under Windows 7, I could run SONAR without any UAC warning. After I upgraded to Win10, nothing I could do could prevent this UAC dialog from appearing.
I made no changes to my UAC settings (that I know of) and I certainly don't have UAC disabled under Windows 7.

Anyway, I reverted to Windows 7 for other reasons so this no longer affects me. But it definitely seems to be some kind of change in how UAC is treating Sonar.
I do wonder if a clean install of Windows 10 followed by a clean install of Sonar would end up with the same situation.

ok if you like

use firefox with noscript, adblock plus and privacy badger

if my friend sent me an infected file - or i downloaded one - my av would catch it

blocking/disallowing/whitelisting javascript is your safest way to play interwebz

i'd be interested in knowing which legit apps have distributed virii in the last, say, 5 years?

Weird, I have 4 computers in my house all with UAC turned off and never picked up a virus or malware.
(knock on wood)
