I have been recording a song all week and editing in sonar and has been 100%.
 
Turned on today re-recorded a small section and strange things happen yet again.
I know for a fact Yamaha Tyros 5 can send midi through its Yamaha USB  midi driver and USB socket to computer and into Sonar
I do not need the scarlett 6i6 to record from the Tyros to sonar and back.
My problem Is when i play a synth with a sweep or slight glide  from tyros to sonar It sounds as It should.
When I play it back the nuances have gone, no effect glide ,just a plain note.
I I play the song through the Windows media player it plays as It should and that Is what's baffling me.
Is there something in sonar to adjust or is the windows media player somehow default
I do not know what to do to get back as i was a few days ago.
A few days ago I made a song on the tyros 5 sequencer and then transported that Into sonar  via  the desktop on Computer.
 
In sonar the same settings were In the In out and sound settings,nothing has changed ,only now for some odd reason
It Is probably a button press somewhere ,but cannot find it.
I have tried everything i can.

I need to simplify this problem and I am gutted at the moment.
 
 
I have Tyros 5 linked to computer via a Yamaha USB driver lead and In and out are configured.
three days ago all was perfect when editing a song made on the Tyros.
Today for some  I re-recorded a passage and saved as midi file and put It on the desktop on computer.
Opened It up I  Sonar Pro and played the passage and It played ok ,but there was no pornamento on the Onboard Tyros synth,just plain notes
I have been all trying to sort this out to no avail and Is very baffling.
Somehow the pornamento effect is not playing back through the tyros speakers.
If I press the mono button on and off back comes the full synth.start play again and the same thing happens . i even play the tyros keys and bland notes come out until I shut down and go back to local on.
 
The funny thing Is if i double click the midi file on the desktop windows player opens and plays it perfectly.
put It back In sonar and back to square one.
Can anyone put me right here as It Is probably a button or two press somewhere.

 READ FROM THE TOP MESSAGE                                                                                                                                                                                                              I have just noticed on the Yamaha site that they now have 64 bit drivers and I am running 32 bit drivers on a 64bit windows 7
Would that make a difference.
I was using 32 bit before and was ok__Puzzling. HELP!!

Ps I have just Re-Ghosted my drive and now live In hope!! I will of course load the new 64 bit drivers.

A couple of things (you may already know):
 
• The Tyros needs to be in LOCAL OFF to work right with a sequencer.  You may need to turn off Sonar, put the Tyros in LOCAL OFF, and then start up Sonar.
• You can access all the sounds in the Tyros manual using patch numbers.  There are panel sounds, however, that have special effects added that can't be accessed with patch numbers.  You can, however, create a song on the Tyors with nothing but the patch changes, save it to USB, and then load that into Sonar.
 
I love m Tyros 2 but was at first disappointed that it did not play nice with a DAW.  It all can be done, though, once you figure it out.
 
Note that I have mine connected to a MIDI interface and then have the Tyros audio going into audio INs on my audio interface, but I still think the above points apply.

A couple of days ago I put a song from the Tyros Into sonar and edited It and then converted to wave file
For some reason today what comes back into the Tyros speakers back from sonar plays perfectly well but does not include anything from the VOICE EFFECT panel,so I get plain dry notes.
If you put the same  song Into the tyros usb It works with all effects as It should.
Another strange qirk is that If double click the song midi file on my computer  windows player comes up and plays the song perfectly somehow transmitting back to the Tyros.But not In Sonar.
When you put a midi file Into sonar local off is automatic
Heads scratching stuff!!
I do not know now what to configure!!
Everything should work through the Yamaha USB Midi drive with a lead from the Tyros to computer.
The Vst side Is ok ,but just using the Tyrosto send it sounds back and forward In the same manner is impossible at the moment.I have got a few songs from the tyros to edit and I cannot at the moment and It Is frustrating me.

I am still going .trying to sort this out getting nowhere.
 
I notice now If i double click on my computer the midi file windows player plays it great but i cannot edit the song in there.
The problem is definitely from the tyros VOICE EFFECT PANEL or Sonar is giving me the  runaround.
I have looked everywhere In Sonar but things look ok but cannot get the sonar program to play a mono synth sending it to the  tyros with its effects from the voice panel .
If I stop playing in sonar press the mono button on and off the voice plays with pornamento as soon as you play your recorded line ,no pornamento.
I have even tried taking the Yamaha Usb lead out and gone through the scarlett Interface and the same happens.
I could record the Tyros as a wave , but you cannot edit It In piano roll
I put the Usb lead back and put a song I recorded In The Tyros 5 plays perfect
Put It on desktop double click ,perfect In media player.Put In sonar and change a couple of notes save it.
Put It on the desktop double click that and It totally gone wrong again.
Sonar is not sending the right signals to my keyboard or something wrong with receive in the Tyros!! CONUNDRUM

Not sure I can sort all this out, but here goes:
 
1.  The voice effect thing is what I was talking about.  MIDI patches (whether in Sonar or another DAW) can't call up the special panel effects because they require SysEx messages, not just MIDI bank and patch numbers.  So it makes sense that the sounds are dry.  I'm not saying it SHOULD work that way, but it does.
2. When you say it works from the Tyros USB, that also confirms the comment above.  When you create a song on Tyros and save it, it saves all the SysEx messages to the USB.
3. NOW, if you import from the USB into Sonar, it should work because you will have all the special Tyros SyseX messages.  If that doesn't work, I have no explanation.  I have done that many times.
4.  As far as Windows Media Player goes, again, if you imported it from the Tyros USB, you may have imported the Sysex messages, but I don't know enough about Windows Media Player to say.
5.  Also, my experience has been that even though Sonar turns off Local Control, if Local is ON when you boot up Sonar, the Tyros can act weird.  I know it's a pain, but I highly recommend turning off Sonar and the Tyros, powering the Tyros on and turning off Local, and then bringing up Sonar.
 
I am sorry for your frustration and hope something in here helps.  I love the Tyros line but it was not made well for hooking up to a DAW.  At this time, I keep the Tyros connected and on in Local Off because I don't play it real time that often any more.  And although the panel sounds and effects are great, I feel like I get enough value just out of the Bank/Patch sounds to justify it.
 
Interesting note for you:  the second song on my current album (Bambicide) was originally created on a Tyros 2 using one of the patterns.  I brought it into Sonar and did a lot of changes, including replacing the Tyros guitars with MusicLab RealGuitar, adding orchestra, etc.  But the important thing is that I could not get a feel I liked for the song until I messed around with it on the Tyros 2.  Although the final record is better than the original Tyros version, I would gladly play the Tyros version live.  It sounds really good.  Song and video are here: themightykonrad.com

Big massive thanks for helping me but the Tyros 5 and Sonar are not playing ball.
Firstly I made a few cover songs on the Tyros 5 and would love to edit them a little for the practice,but want to write my own songs. I have got to get a system going and keep to It.
I have done what you said and powered the tyros up and turn Local off first and then power sonar up.
Still the same ,Load up the song and then Sonar asks  "do you want to send system exclusive because the song includes sys ex.Press yes. I would have thought from there the tyros would have  been  all set up and ready to receive everything
I found that pressing the mono button on and off on the  voice panel of the Tyros, the synth and effects on It are back when playing a few notes ,but as soon as you press play same again on that track.
If all Is lost here I can edit the song In Sonar and save It .Play It back through the Tyros sequencer and all the nuances are back 100%.Then record It to wave on the Tyros.
I would have thought again that these advanced programs would have sorted all this out .
The Idea I have Is to use some of the Tyros Styles and leads and convert them to a wave files which is straight forward and the use my soft synths vst to add more In there,which would be a great combination.If I want to use Tyros Styles,I also have to make the chord progression though out the song on the Tyros and the transport that over to Sonar.
I have no trouble with the VST side.Sausages to that!!! I will have a look at your song.Konrad.

When you open/import the Song from the Tyros into Sonar all sys/ex settings will be loaded in Sonar as you saves it at the Tyros.
Be care full when you select other styles or songs or voices, the master and insert effects changed.
When you have a 2 way midi connection the settings will also be changed in Sonar and vise versa.
When you don't want that the Tyros could destroy the sonar settings. Shut down the midi output in the Tyros or midi input in Sonar
When you don't want that Sonar could destroy the Tyros settings. Shut down the midi output in the Sonar or midi input in the Tyros.
I use 2 midi settings when i use the Tyros with Sonar
1 for play the Tyros and 1 for to play Sonar.

The ins file is not the problem when you don't change the voice into another.

You can restore the Tyros song settings by press the Stop button once or twice when playing.
Or select a registration.

Some times sonar shut down the midi sett up.
Check in the Tyros : Menu > function > Midi if your midi sett up is still highlighted so selected.

A Media player does not have a midi input.
So the settings could not be destroyed from an external midi device as the Tyros.
So that's why the media player played the song well.
It does not mean that all sys/ex settings are in the song of the media player
it could be that settings are all ready in the Tyros when you have load the song.

When the sys/ex settings are not in the song of Sonar but in the loaded song in the Tyros.
and you play some notes in Sonar it might sound well.
but if you switch off the Tyros and switch on the Tyros it won't sound well because the sys/ex settings aren't loaded.
