I need some help with my Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 and SONAR Pro.  Hopefully I can explain this correctly.  I plug in my instrument into the number 01 input on the front panel, I than (with in SONAR Pro) insert an audio track.  Then I arm the track for recording.  I can record the instrument without any problems, where the problem occurs is that I cannot control the input volume of the instrument at all from within SONAR on the slider of the corresponding track, I move the slider of the track all the way down and there is no effect but the input meters still light up.  When I bring up the Scarlett Mix control, I can adjust only the output volume of the instrument to my monitors, so when I put the slider in Scarlett Mix control all the way down of course you cannot hear anything but the input meters are still lighting up. The only way to adjust the input volume of the instrument going into SONAR is to use the volume controls on my instrument to prevent clipping.  Basically I cannot adjust the input volume at all within SONAR or the Scarlett Mix control.  I use to be able to do adjust the input volume with my old audio capture device from within SONAR.  So I am not sure if I’m doing something wrong.

Thanks for any help.

Did you maybe hit the PFL button?  (pre-fader level)  I have the same Focusrite thing and also SONAR Pro but haven't experienced this.  I only have a 19" old school CRT at present and I have to admit that much of the UI is too small for me to clearly see it, so things can get selected by accident.

Also be aware that SONAR does not control the input at all. That is only done with your audio interface. SONAR records what is sent to it.

Why are you not using the input volume knob of the 18i8? If it's light red means clipping and you can back off a bit.

Yup gain for the recording is always set on the interface itself. The rest is monitoring.

I appreciate the help.

I do realize that I can do it this way.  It’s just that I could control the input from SONAR with my old audio device, so I was used to that work flow.   I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t doing something wrong.
