  • Anyone using a Roland Integra 7 sound module with Sonar? (p.2)

Hi there Jim,  I am not directly in the market for a sound module right now. I am running a Korg M1, the JD800, 2 Kurzweil rack samplers, two EMU samplers and a Yamaha A4000 as my hardware set-up so I pretty well set-up for the moment.

In a way the samplers are very similar to sample based synth modules anyway. They all have extensive libraries and great effects processors. But if I was looking into just one two space rack mount that packed a huge amount of power I think the Integra 7 would be it for sure. I like the concept of so much power being inside one smallish unit.

As far as working with a DAW I am sure it will be fine. I generally don't get these things to do more than one midi channel at once. I prefer to print parts to audio as they happen and work with the audio tracks later in mixing, although I am sure it has powerful multi timbral features as well.

I only mentioned the JD800 for our interest more rather than what the OP was talking about. I know the JD990 is more complex in its own way but the sound quality that comes out of the JD800 is quite unique. I love it!

If I didn't already have the JV-2080, with all but one expansion slot filled, I would be looking at the Integra. Roland's sound sets are the most useable for meat and potato tracks. I also have a Triton and, while it sounds great, to me it is more useful for leads and motion pads than anything else. The Roland stuff just sits better in a mix. Now,  if I was doing EDM, then the Triton would be my go to synth.

Regards,
Dan

2) no editor for pc at the time. That may have been rectified by now. Otherwise is iPad only. There is a vsti editor for sonar but only for surround sound is my understanding of it. So no saves or editing in sonar.
No matter how good something may sound, usability is still key. Especially these days were options with soft synths and hardware synths are shear endless. Having no VST editor (i.e. no way to save settings with the current project) and no other control interface than buttons on the rack unit or iPad control is for me a knock-out criteria (but that's just me); hence i crossed it off my list until there maybe enhancements to it ...

There are so many more hardware synths and modules that integrate via sortware editors and other means. It seams that Roland releasing a hardware module without this type of integration makes some confused. Sounds are important but I find there are not many sounds I can't find in software now a days. kontact, onmisphere, trillian, zeta 2,dimention pro, rapture, komplete 8,or uhe synths. Way to many to mention here.

I cannot figure out how to assign Integra-7 instruments to a particular track within SONAR. All the Instrument Definition lets you do is assign a "Set" to a track, but there doesn't seem to be a way to assign individual instruments. Nor, for that matter, can I switch between banks, except that there is a list of "sets" available.

I probably could use the VST editor to set up a new track with the correct instrument, but I have bunches of old tracks that I want to upgrade to the Integra-7.

I should mention that I have been using Cakewalk since version 1.0 for DOS, which I bought from Greg Hendershot.

You'd be better starting a new thread as this one is over 2 years old and not likely to get a lot of attention.

works fine for me ,been using the integra 7 for about a yr,the editor works as a vst3 pluggin on mine
with sonar platinum (but I still use the vs700 set and the internal fantom in addition to the integra7.)
But with the new plugins available (dmpro..waves,and the tons of others I would suggest just a good interface
MOTU or of your budget and preference .(to get the additional inputs.)
