It looks like a GUI for touch screens.  I think of it as it's the same start screen it just has icons.

I hope we are laughing at the antiquity of touch screens soon!

I probably have 30 or more ongoing project folders at any given time.

Some of them are parent folders to collections of an album project or client projects...

This makes for a large listing and the only way I'm comfortable dealing with it is alphabetically. So I prefer to see a simple list of projects...

But sometimes while continuing work on a project it might be handy as the current recent projects list for fast access...

But that's why I'm interested in the existence of a default bypass so it will depend on the nature of my current need for Sonar...

I'm not condemning it or anything, it may be wonderful... I'm just thinking out loud... ;-)

You can continue to get to the classic file open dialog from the start screen by clicking the "Existing project" button or you can disable it altogether if you don't wish to use it.
However its a huge upgrade from the old quickstart with some modern features like pinning of your most frequently accessed projects, templates, tutorial videos and tips. It also has a connected notification center where you will get up to date information on SONAR and other connected products that you own. No need to check email or the web for your monthly updates anymore.

I love this hugely... great job... another user commenting on the youtube vid suggested adding: "Recover last autosave"... that would be a nice addition down the line... if easy to implement!  If it takes away from an "arrange" window, forget it!

All in all, I think this is a great start screen and would use it immediately... gives all options I routinely switch between in one nice start screen... beautiful...

Thanks Noel...

I'm looking forward to checking it out... Just thinking ahead brought me to wonder about default bypass. Thanks for answering that. It does look very nice but I'm sure you understand the concerns/issues I mention earlier in this thread...

As to the update status? That's a nice addition as well for those who are always connected with a fast enough connection to make it invisible... Sadly that's not me these days... I have to download manually then add it to CCC for install and maintaining update status... I hope one day this will change so that I can enjoy the modern world! ;-)

Have a great weekend!

Thanks again...

Good news that I've gleaned from discussions about this here on the forum (and maybe this has already been implemented and not related to the new starscreen) is that we will be able to open a project without defining a folder location. So we won't have to type in a project name/path when we open a new project. This is great for a weirdo tester/noodler like me.

Yes this is already here, with the ability to select sample rate etc for the project.

I'm interested to see the new mastering template. Any images of this anywhere?

I'm looking forward to this. The idea of a visual clue of what save file "14-07-2014" (for example) contains without opening it works for me.

Grum.
