I'm very curious about this interface and was wondering if anyone has tried it with X3.

Curious about the whole range myself.

Bumping this post. Anybody using a MOTU 16A with Sonar Platinum? Or, any of the new MOTU interfaces?

Seem to be getting a lot of MOTU issues recently. Might not be this model though. Probably best to google to compile the facts..

I have a 1248 running on an older dual core, win7 and Platnum. It has great converters, really good preamps, easy to update firmware, and my personal favorite, an open industry standard point to point interface in AVB. I'm going to pick up a 8m in a few days to take advantage of recording in any room in the house - I have cat 5 run to about every room, but all the PC's and tablets are wireless. There's two really nice sounding rooms in the house and I have to run snakes to them to use them.. No more.

First impressions. Converters sound great, preamps are very usable (like the large dials to initially tweak), no need to echo and get to the lowest latency, I can record 12 channels for hours at 96k 24 bit (haven't tried 192, no need to for what I am doing) no dropout using USB2, onboard web services are so simple to connect a wireless router to the unit and use a tablet to connect in and create my own individual monitor mix. I am very pleased, but there's so much in the new routing/mix/submix toolset, expect to spend a while on rapping your head around it on one unit, then connected to other units. Two things aren't complete - win thunderbolt, and saving mix setups over USB (you can save over Ethernet however and USB2 is plenty fast).

Best regards,

L

Been running the Ultralite AVB for a couple months.
Low round-trip latency (4.9ms at 64-sample buffer size/44.1k), good converters (noise-floor ~-110dB), solid drivers, and loads of routing/processing features.
At ~$650, the Ultralite AVB is hard to beat.

The 1248 has even better converters (noise-floor of ~-117dB).

The new MOTU AVB series are excellent choices.
You don't have to compromise on low round-trip latency... or sound quality

The 16A seems about my only choice for (at least) 16 analog inputs at a price that is in my budget (right at the top of it, actually). Just been scared by some of the horror stories I've heard about MOTU with Windows 7. I'd be using it with Sonar Platinum, also. It's really hard to find any info or reviews on this unit. In fact, it doesn't seem like MOTU stuff gets reviewed much at all. That's kinda scary. Magazines don't seem to like to give bad reviews, especially to manufacturers that advertise with them.

Rod, the new MOTU units work just fine under Win7 and Win8.

I've had good performance from all my MOTU audio interfaces (8-Pre, 896HD, and Ultralite AVB).

I've been using MOTU with windows since before Vista and I can honestly say absolutely no horror stories for 12 years. But - I keep my machine off the internet except to connect with Microsoft for OS updates, cakewalk or waves program updates. I haven't added any other software. None. Not sure what has been said negatively, which indeed may have merit, but I simply have not experienced it with my setup, work process or system load. I do not do much MIDI, I rarely use over 30 tracks, I record max at 96k, 24 bit. I don't add a lot of effects until mix down, and I rely on Quemix, now AVB routing so I play it safe on latency issues. With AVB mixing comes a whole slew of advantages when I have the gang over to record.

There was an extensive and long running forum chat out there from just before the AVB launch that had MOTU engineering popping in from time to time, and really laid out the specs, what was done and where the product was headed. For a company to release what was under the hood before launch, and even sharing some things that marketing would run for this hills - figuratively - piqued my interest early on. So far, everything that I recall which was important to me, has been implemented. I am waiting for win thunderbolt, but they have been honest on their support and direction.. I have USB2 and Ethernet, and that's good enough for now.

Your mileage may vary, but I really enjoy MOTU's latest flagship design, support, and direction.

Best Regards

LL

I'm confused. Why do you need USB AND Ethernet? Why not just USB and done?
