My MIDI was working perfectly until the latest SONAR update.
Everything appears the same (MIDI in/out all there etc) but I cannot play any instruments or record MIDI.

Any thoughts?

Now that you mention it, I did have to up my midi buffer from 500 to 750 in Sonar preferences recently, to avoid occasional dropped midi notes . . . but your issue seems much worse, not being able to play or record any midi ?
Surely there must be something else going on, can you give more information about your system, and specifically audio / midi interface device ?

What's your interface?
When was the last time you updated your audio interface firmware and drivers?
When was the last time you ran windows update?

Cheers..

Nope.

Everything is exactly the same for me on both of my systems

All good on Foxboro here.  In fact it's better than ever.

I ended up giving up and running everything USB.

What works works.  LOL

Well I think most of us wouldn't have had a clue you were using standard MIDI cables rather than USB MIDI anyway. So at least we know where your problem was now :)

The issue would probably have been drivers or the way it was set up in Sonar preferences, or maybe the controller itself needing the ports enabled or a firmware update.

Glad you go it sorted..
