  • V-Vocal in Sonar Platinum?

I noticed in the Vocal-Sync video that V-Vocal seemed to be missing on the Region Effects menu.  Can someone confirm if V-Vocal has been removed?  And if so, what happens to existing projects that have V-Vocal clips?

Thanks,
Terry

I believe that if you have it installed from a previous SOANR it will show up and work in existing projects. The vid was probably made from a clean new SONAR (only) install.

Not at my DAW right now, but someone will chime in before I get home to confirm.

I believe V-Vocal was dropped in Sonar X3.  If you do have X2 or earlier installed, then V-Vocal is available in SONAR Platinum and is available to both new and previously created projects.

It was indeed dropped in X3 but since I have X2 still installed on my system if I go to the RegionFX menu in X3 there (whoop) there it is. Seriously I'm in front of my DAW right now and double checked.

You may have to do a VST scan for it though once you install Platinum. If you do not want to keep X2 on your system you can do a custom install of X2 and just install the effects you want that are going to be missing from Platinum (like R-Mix, V-Vocal). Also the VC-64 has been MIA for a version or so (not sure if it was dropped in X2 or X3) so that's another goodie to watch for from older installs. It's old a rickety though (as is V-Vocal) which is why they were removed. Pre-emptive strike against glitches and complaints I guess.

A VST scan is part of the new SONAR install. But it is not going to help where V-Vocal is concerned. V-Vocal is not a VST plug-in. It is a DirectX plug-in using Roland tech which was not part of the sale to Gibson. Unlike most of the other plug-ins, V-Vocal cannot be selected with the advanced install option. To install V-Vocal requires installing the SONAR program itself. IOW, when running the advanced install option for X2 or before, select the first line in the custom pick list.

Since I also have full installs of X1, X2 and X3 that would explain why I think I saw V-Vocal in my Platinum.

V-Vocal works fine in Platinum, assuming you had it already from X2 or earlier.
It was one of the first things I checked :-)

If you uninstall an older (X2 or before) version of Sonar, it will delete VVocal from your system, even if you still have a newer-older version.

E.g. I uninstalled 8.3 and X1 while keeping X2 & X3. Then I installed Platinum. VVocal was gone from the system, but somehow VVocal was still in the RFX menu. Platinum crashed from trying to add RFX VVocal. Also when I opened an earlier project in Platinum that has VVocal on it, Plat crashed. To be fair, X3 and probably X2 also started behaving this way.

I reinstalled X2 over itself to get back a working VVocal. Then I reinstalled Platinum to get the latest versions of various dll's that X2 seemed to put in the shared & common areas.

You can be sure of that given your uninstalls of X1 and less.
