The whole thing has actually become moot now with the new rolling upgrades/subscription scheme.
In the old days I would have said the grace period for new releases/upgrades could have been a bit longer or maybe there could be more leeway for those just wandering in with boxed releases (like I did) but that's all gone.
The new system kills ALL of that shiz and does give way more control/protection to the user.
That said, realex, once you start looking at the new way Sonar releases work you are likely going to have a momentary freak out. On the surface it almost seems like the crummy Adobe subscription based model but it is NOT at all.
I'm just preparing you for the initial shock. We had streams of freakouts about this that have finally settled down and the consensus is it's all good and cool. So if you have questions I'll put myself out there for you to ask general stuff and of course you can ask support but I'm sure if you get over the initial shock of what it looks like (at first) you'll realize it's really pretty slick.
Essentially nothing changes unless you want it to (the only difference is now you can pay monthly IF YOU WANT).
Also if you get the free grace period upgrade (which you should) then you have a whole year to sort out the details so you should be totally golden.
Again... best of luck to ya. You are almost certainly going to dig the new Sonar. It's like X3 but way better.
Cheers.
