I've been having this issue for a while now.
I set up a template to record and it'll consist of 29 tracks, 11 busses, and multiple plugins. I do all the panning as well, I do this for my church and I already know where everything should be panned.
When I record it will not record the panning centered -like it should- it records them to how I had it panned. Let say I have it panned to 50% left.... I'll notice that it is recording that way and so I'll put it back to 0 (center), but it will still record it panned to the 50%.
I don't want to record with pan pots centered. I want to record with them planned in the template so I can get the mix down faster.
Not sure if I explained this right but hopefully you get the gist.
Any fix for this?

Panning is mostly a playback function. You record as mono or stereo into a track, then apply panning on playback. So if your template has panning, it will apply that panning on playback.

Yeah, that makes sense but what I mean is I will play back the audio with the pan pot turned to the center but it shows on the metering -in this particular case - as playing 50% to the left.

I have never recorded with a pan pot not centered, so never seen such a thing. If you move the pan off center and double click it to reset to zero, is it still panned 50% left?
 
I have seen instances where a recorded mono signal has been panned fully left/right on playback, but forget now the conditions which caused it.

As Craig says, panning isn't a record function but rather a playback function. Pan settings should not, AFAIK, have any effect on how a track is recorded. IOW, panning is not an intrinsic property of a recorded track, which is just audio that has no knowledge of panning.
 
Perhaps your problem is that you're recording in stereo? Unless you're recording a stereo pair, e.g. X/Y or Decca tree, all of your recorded tracks should be mono (input is from just 1 interface channel and the track interleave is set to mono).
 
If you are recording stereo tracks from a pair of microphones, then panning has no meaning and the pan sliders should be centered. If you need to shift the stereo image, you'll want to use the Channel Tools plugin rather than the pan control.

It sounds like maybe you originally - or maybe additionally -  made the pan settings in Offset mode. There's a button to switch between Envelope and Offset mode in the Mix Module. Pan and volume widgets will have a + sign on them when in Offset mode.

Yes that is exactly right. I record in mono and its like the panning playback is set to my previos mix of the last time I used the template. I record like this because I've mixed theses musicans and singers over and over again and this saves me a great deal of time.

Sweet!!! It was in Offset mode. This is the fist I've heard of this. I didn't find the button that you were talking about on the mix module but I found that you can just press "o" and it will revert back.
