No....despite observing all the above info and Focusrite instructions, the system still crashes almost every time I hit the STOP button.
It seems I have nothing left to try..apart from maybe getting my money back.

Help me understand something here ,
When you say " Focusrite instructions " are you talking about what they have on the web page and their videos , or are you talking about having opened up a support ticket w Focusrite and going through the one on one help and instructions they may have offered to you to help fix the problems you are having  ?
Hey , after all that , if your actually "went there" and your not happy w the 2i4 I can certainly under stand that you may have to do what you have to do …

Sorry I should have been more precise.

I'm referring to the Focusrite web page that has the "set up your PC for optimum audio" plus all the other tips they recommend.
But just now I've opened a case with Focusrite ...I've sent them all my details so am now waiting for a reply.

But again, I'm sure this is all to do with drivers...maybe my particular PC is simply unfriendly towards them ?

I'll keep posting until there's a conclusion one way or the other.

I noticed you mentioned Akai EIE. Do you have ASIO4ALL installed? It is worth mentioning that should be uninstalled (simply "not running" doesn't work in most cases).

Again please provide a detailed list of any system tweaks you made - these are worth taking a look at.

I'm not a faan of USB powered interfaces. I'd go trade it in for one with a power supply as an option. ANd a big plus to never having asio4all in your system if you have real drivers.. but that would not cause a crash..
And You should really try a demo or buy for $30 a newer version of Sonar. Sonar 7 is very old and not going to be very stable on a newer system.
