  • [SOLVED] If I have the newer Z3TA+ 2 . . . can I delete the older z3ta+ ?

Just doing some cleaning up of my plugins . . . and wondered about removing the older version z3ta+
I think all the old patches are included in "Classic Content" within the newer Z3TA+ 2 . . . but not sure ?

If I go to Windows Control Panel - Uninstall Programs, I don't see the older z3ta+ program listed ? . . . but the newer Z3TA+ 2 is listed. Is this because the newer version is 64 bit ?  . . . or because the older version is RGC Audio, instead of Cakewalk ?

Probably neither version uses up very much disk space, but is there no uninstall for the older version, or do we have to just remove it from the plugins listed in "Cakewalk Plugin Manager" ?

Z3ta+ Classic does not have a separate installer. It takes up less than 20MB. If I did not want to see the plug-in, I would go into the Cakewalk Plug-in Manager and exclude it.

So . . . do you think all the old patches are included in the newer version ?
If not, is it safe to delete the 20 MB, or are they shared somehow ?

I just did a count of the z3ta+ programs and even with a few custom programs, the original zeta+ has fewer programs than the "z3ta+ Classic Content" in z3ta+2, 807 vs. 1096. The plug-ins share nothing in common. Z3ta+ Classic is in three folders. The default locations in a 64bit installation are "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\z3ta+", "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\z3ta+" and "C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\z3ta+." Delete it if you wish.

If you have older projects that use it, I would say no. Chances are the CLSID (or whatever it is) won't be the same and you'll be hosed. This happened to me with several synths when I upgraded my DAW a few years ago. Total nightmare scenario.

They are definitely different plug-ins with different CLSIDs.

. . . wicked, it's a very good point, as I have had this happen with other older plugins from earlier systems.
Perhaps (as scook suggest) for sake of a mere 20 MB of disk space, I should just exclude it in Plugin Manager, so it can be brought back if needed.

By the time you need to use z3ta+ classic, you will have forgotten it is excluded and you will reinstall it anyway.

. . . it's true, at some point, everything is dust in the wind, even plugins
