I hope someone can help me with this issue as I am at the end of my rope. The issue I'm having is that when I record a simple audio track, a miked guitar, it records fine, but then when I try to record another audio guitar track it distorts horribly. Add soon as I hit the record button, the volume shoots up and if I play it back there is high volume static on the second track. My audio interface is aa m audio fastrack pro, I'm using an shure 57 run straight into the fastrack pro. I'm running Windows 7, I have a core i7 processor with sixteen gigs of ddr 3 ram. I can't understand why this is happening, it shows that I have plenty of resources available to the system, help please.

Thanks,
Tom

Make sure your Playback and Record Timing Masters in Preferences > Audio > Driver Settings are both referencing the Fastrack. And I presume you're using M-Audio's ASIO drivers?

I am using the M Audio drivers and the preferences are referencing the fastrack drivers.

First comes to mind:
This has nothing to do with PC resources.
How are you monitoring during recording? Not with loudspeakers? If the loud noise starts right when you hit the Record button (before you've played a sound), it must be some sort of routing/feedback problem, i.e. the sound of either the first recorded track or the one you've armed for recording can loop out and back in.
(Unfinished thought:Could, say, leaving the Input Echo of the first track on cause something like this? )

Hi. Do you use ASIO drivers for your Fastrack? How long have you had this issue? Which version of SONAR do you have? Is it the same if you switch to another input in your AI?
Best of luck.

On re-reading it does sound like some sort of feedback or signal duplication. Maybe you have parallel paths to the physical output via aux buses, either within SONAR or in the M-Audio's software mixer...? What's in the project besides the two tracks? And are you trying Input Monitor via SONAR, or are you just listening to room sound from an acoustic guitar or miced amp?

Did you set the playback tracks's inputs to None?
