Somehow after installing the updates required by Focusrite, my Scarlett 18i6 shuts down their Scarlett MixControl 1.1 software as soon as Sonar accesses it. So I am completely down!  After several iterations of installs (i.e. going back to earlier versions etc.) I am still unable to get the audio interface to work. I did notice this morning that the latest release note states:  Known Issues:  - Not passing audio when connected to some USB 3 ports  - "Dim" and "Mute" buttons in Scarlett MixControl affecting level of 'Grey' outputs  - 64 bit DAWs cannot open Scarlett Mix Control using their "Control Panel" audio options (Windows)    DING!  So it looks as if the 64 bit issue is my problem. If any of you are using a stable Focusrite interface on 64, DO NOT UPGRADE your firmware, MixControl etc. until this gets resolved!

Damn !!    Too late.. I'm looking around here for help and saw this post.. I've been having troubles with this thing and I knew it was the newest updates..  And the Scarlett Mix control will not let you roll back. If you do,  Mix control software won't open.  The update contained a firnmware update as well so you can't go back.    Wish I knew this before.. but thanks for the info.

I've been having problems with my scarlett focusrite 18i6 with Sonar 8.5 for 4 months. My pc loses contact with the firmware as soon as Sonar is done scanning VTS plugins, the mixcontrol changes interface to if the firmware wasn't contected and an error from Sonar says that the firmware failed to initiate. Sometimes it bluescreens at this point, stating its an APC_MISMATCH_ERROR. I have uninstalled all other music software, like HP beat control and ****. So its a 64x problem? Can it be fixed by reinstalling windows to 32x?

Hold the phone,,, this is a real old thread, They have since updated the mix control at least 7 times since the OP , I'm on 1.8. and it works perfectly fine, these other posts may have had other issues due to whatever,, but there are 1,000 of Focusrite interfaces out there all working better than average. It's a solid brand and they generally have jumped on driver issues right away. If anything Focusrite has the most stable drivers of all the brands at the lower price points.

If Sonar is loosing the driver that's a common issue often caused by your on board audio and is easily avoided.
Two solutions usually work.
1. Disable all on board audio including HD audio in your video card. Check "share drivers with other programs" and only use your Interface and it's ASIO driver for the computer.
2. Don't check "share drivers with other programs"  and use your on board audio for all non DAW playback. You may still want to disable HD audio of the video card as there are many people reporting huge DPCL issues caused by the video  HD audio driver. It's like having wireless on.

I use method #1 with only a few times I've had Sonar switch to MME mode on me because I used WMP. If I use Win Amp this doesn't seem to happen.

#2 is most poplar but has the downside of you need a second playback system for the on board playback. This is fine if your not proofing mixes using a media player.  A solution is to patch the on board into an unused input of your audio interface. Or even better, a sub mixer for handling monitor and headphone levels. I just bought a Mackie Mix 8 for $70 just for this task.

I would contact Focusrite. They will respond promptly to your issue and walk you through it.
It is defiantly not a 32 bit issue.
It sound more like the firmware update was a bad download and didn't install properly.
And you don't give your system specs so not sure if your using XP?
Sonar should not be telling about firmware?? You don't even have to open the Mix Control. I don't unless I need to change the settings.

Hi, I just realized I revived an old thread, so sorry about that. But this was the issue which most accurately describes my current situation, as I described in my post above, so I was a bit rash in posting. I'm sitting with the most updated Mixcontrol, and these problems still persist. I have uninstalled Beats Studio, which was the main piece of audio software this pc came with. Should I also disable the software for the integrated speakers also? Thanks for your response.

First off, I have the Scarlett 18i6 and the latest Mix Control and Sonar Platinum. All works great. So it's local to your machine.

You might try going in to Device Manager and seeing if you have other audio devices, like an internal sound card, active.

Others will provide more helpful tips I'm sure.

I'm, having no problems at all. My original post was two years ago. Focusrite walked me through the fix but yes there's been a few updates since then.  Nothing to do with 64 bit.
