Hold the phone,,, this is a real old thread, They have since updated the mix control at least 7 times since the OP , I'm on 1.8. and it works perfectly fine, these other posts may have had other issues due to whatever,, but there are 1,000 of Focusrite interfaces out there all working better than average. It's a solid brand and they generally have jumped on driver issues right away. If anything Focusrite has the most stable drivers of all the brands at the lower price points.
If Sonar is loosing the driver that's a common issue often caused by your on board audio and is easily avoided.
Two solutions usually work.
1. Disable all on board audio including HD audio in your video card. Check "share drivers with other programs" and only use your Interface and it's ASIO driver for the computer.
2.
Don't check "share drivers with other programs" and use your on board audio for all non DAW playback. You may still want to disable HD audio of the video card as there are many people reporting huge DPCL issues caused by the video HD audio driver. It's like having wireless on.
I use method #1 with only a few times I've had Sonar switch to MME mode on me because I used WMP. If I use Win Amp this doesn't seem to happen.
#2 is most poplar but has the downside of you need a second playback system for the on board playback. This is fine if your not proofing mixes using a media player. A solution is to patch the on board into an unused input of your audio interface. Or even better, a sub mixer for handling monitor and headphone levels. I just bought a Mackie Mix 8 for $70 just for this task.
