  • [Solved] ReWire configuration/coordination message?

Hi-

I get the following message now 4 times whenever I start SONAR. I've done a reset and rescan several times; no difference.

I don't use ReWire and I have no idea what that message means and yes, I Googled it. Is there a way to just exclude all ReWire devices from SONAR's scan? The ones showing up in the Browser are Melodyne, REAPER and FL Studio, and I don't use ReWire versions of any of them.

TIA-

Part of the ReWire spec is that a ReWire client will "announce" its presence to a ReWire host. That's why when you go Insert > ReWire Device in SONAR the list is already populated with candidates. However also note you can't mix 32 and 64 bit apps that use ReWire, it's either one or the other. It looks like something may be trying to bridge the ReWire connection. (For the longest time I couldn't use ReWire with SONAR because P-Heads were slow getting out a 64-bit ReWire DLL.)

I'm not exactly a ReWire expert, although I do use it often to run Reason as another "instrument rack" inside SONAR. However, what I assume the message means is that you have used a ReWire client-compatible application in a stand-alone mode, and something about it changed. It has therefore announced the change to SONAR or to whatever is trying to bridge it.

Unfortunately you cannot exclude a ReWire device in the Plug-In Manager the same way you can exclude plug-ins. If you never use ReWire:

1. Search for rewire.dll and rewireservice.dll (if present).
2. Rename them to rewire.dlx and rewireservice.dlx

This should gray out the ReWire option under Insert, so that may prevent the error message from popping up - please report back and let us know if that's the case.

If you decide you want to get into using ReWire, then search on .dlx and change the name back to .dll.

Hope this helps.

Hi Craig-

As of now I never use Rewire, so I'll try your renaming fix and report back. My only experience with ReWire is experimenting with FL Studio rewired in SONAR, and I like it much better as a VSTi.

Thanks much!

When you report back, let me know if you're using all 64-bit programs. I'm curious why you're getting a Bridge-related error message. Seems odd. Maybe you have a 32-bit rewire.dll hanging around in your system.

FWIW I've fixed several peoples' ReWire problems by instructing them to search on rewire.dll. Sometimes multiple versions will have been installed, some 32-bit from previous installations, some 64-bit. I usually advise renaming all except the most recent one and if that solves their problems, to delete the older ones.

Hi Craig-

It turns out I had in fact installed a program called "ReWire 64-32 Bridge" back in April to rewire P5 into 64-bit apps and promptly and completely forgot all about it since it worked transparently for the short time I used it. I thought that was just a generic ReWire message title, but obviously it wasn't! I installed some updates over the past couple of days and that's apparently what triggered those messages. I uninstalled the bridge and everything's back to normal.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
