After using CC for 4 months now, updating everything indicated, I've noticed my hard drive memory is rapidly disappearing. It seems CC keeps a file of every download of every update. In just 4 months it's grown to 28GB ! Are these basically set-up files that can be deleted after install? Are there any negative consequences to clearing everything out after updating?  the file path is-  Windows(c) - Program Data - Cakewalk - Command Center - Downloads.   Thanks for any input.

You can keep them and move them to somewhere else. If you do keep them, redirect your CCC download folder there.
You can delete them. All the files are available from your Cakewalk store account. Check out the changes down in the last week and you will see all the download files there not just the most recent.
If you want to rollback at any time, the file will have to be downloaded again.
So you can have your Cakewalk and eat it too. Your choice and there isn't a wrong one.
I keep all my installers on a 1 TB drive for the day when I can't connect to the net to download just the file I need.
Other's have more faith and happy to delete the lot and rely on the developers support.

I'd like to delete all but the latest update for each product/installer. I wonder if that's ok?
 
EDIT: I just moved all but the latest installers out of the installs directory (Which I have in a custom location in CCC options) and then started CCC. It didn't yell at me. I'm assuming when there's another update I'll be fine, but I'll come back to the thread and report.
 
The "old" files totaled 16GB so it's worth it.

If CCC doesn't find the file it needs (in the selected Download folder) for the instruction you've given, it will go online to find it in your account in the Cakewalk store.

The Download folder you select in the CCC options becomes the storage location for any installers that you don't delete. You must choose whether to keep or delete the files. CCC will not delete any files.

I just moved all mine to my 2TB hard drive and saved 24GB 
 
Really do not see any point in Command center storing all these on your hard drive ,Surely that is just a waste of space especially when i am using a SSD where space is at a premium .
 
Anyway i redirected Command Center download to the 2TB drive so all is good 

CCC can't decide for you. It has to default somewhere. You have to tell it where you want the downloads to go.

I think the odd situation is we just moved into an era of 1TB drives being the standard for regualr drives. But along comes the SSD and knocks us back 10 years in storage sizes. 
Software people are going to assume storage is absolutly nothing to fret about so next thing you know files are becoming bigger and bigger just for OS and software. 
 
I've been downloading directly from my account to a external drive and then I run the installer from there so my DAW is not cluttered at all. 
I don't use the CCC on my main DAW. 
I do have it on the laptop which also has a 240 GB SSD so I go and delete all the files after I've got the green lights. Seems not to interfear with Sonar and I have the back ups on the external. 
 
 

Once the relevant parts have been updated there is no need to have a copy of the .EXE on your system.
24GB of worthless .EXE`s on my drive is not acceptable .

The software can't accomodate every possible choice. It's up to you to delete the files if you so choose. Apart from samples I have a 1TB drive for all my installers. I choose to keep all my file for the day when I can't access the net and the worst happens and need to rebuild my system. I don't have full trust in software as I've been bitten. For the cost of a few TBs of green HDD storage the cost for doing my own archiving isn't really that big a deal.

My point is i have never had any other software that thinks storing EXE`s after successfully installed on your hard drive is a good idea.
I been messing about with various programmes for almost 20 years and never come across it before . 
Its wasteful. 24GB is a lot to lose ,especially for things that are not needed . 
 
That`s my opinion and i respect yours but still don't agree it is needed in any way ,. And its all well and good saying "for the cost of a few TB of green HDD storage" but a lot of people have not got the money to spare .
