  • [SOLVED] - No signal input/output in SonarX3 - ASIO drivers

Hi all,

I have Sonar X3e Producer Edition installed on Windows 8.1. I use a MOTU 896HD FireWire interface. I have all the up-to-date drivers for my interface installed but I am currently getting no sound at all from Sonar (no signal in input/output meters from audio tracks in Sonar). The MIDI tracks show signal, but no sound is heard.

I have ASIO selected as my device type and the appropriate devices selected for ins/outs. I also set the output of my master bus as 'Main out', which goes to my studio monitors from the interface. All tracks feed into the master bus.

I am frustrated at this point because I feel like I have tried everything. Does anyone have any input on this to help me out?

FYI: I have already done all the noob checks like soloed tracks, muted clips, etc.

Thanks.

SOLUTION: I had the FireWire card installed in the wrong PCIe slot on my motherboard. I installed it in a larger slot (x16) and everything works! Sound!!

Welcome to the forum.
Do you have Motu as the record/playback timing master? Regarding MIDI, do you have a soft synth installed?
MIDI itself has no sound.

Hi,

I have MOTU Main Out 1-2 set as Playback timing master and MOTU Analog 1 set as Recording timing master. I would upload screenshots, but for some reason the server is not letting me.

When I tested the MIDI, I was using Superior Drummer 2.

I also forgot to mention that I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 7. I did a fresh install since I am using a new SSD hard drive so I had to reinstall Sonar. When I was on 7, Sonar worked well, but now there is no audio output or input signal at all!

Update: I got signal from the meters but only when I set the playback timing master to my on board sound card. When I set the playback timing master to MOTU, the signals disappear.

Now at least I know it's not because of Sonar, but has something to do with the FireWire or MOTU drivers...

You must make sure the integrated soundchip is not selected anywhere in SONARs settings.
That sounds as if in the in/out drivers-box the chip is selected. How is it in Windows Control Panel?

Hi,
I only selected it for the purposes of testing the drivers in WDM mode. Normally, when I set it to ASIO, the integrated sound driver is not an option to select.

So basically, the only way I can get sound is by using the integrated sound driver in WDM mode. If I switch to ASIO and try to use MOTU, then it doesn't work...

I am starting to think this may be a compatibility issue with my FireWire card and my new motherboard since I know I have all the correct Windows 8.1 drivers installed for MOTU and FireWire.

EDIT: I tried looking at Windows Control Panel for the MOTU devices and set my "default device" to MOTU main out, but that did nothing. I also tried disabling the onboard sound through the control panel and that did not work either...

Running out of options...

The documentation for your audio interface indicates this interface seems to work just fine in ASIO driver mode.

I would suggest you list your current settings in Sonar for your Driver Mode, selected Audio Interface itself as a device, as well as the Record and Playback Timing Masters.

I have always had Sonar automatically fill in the values for the timing masters, as soon as I clicked Apply after changing driver mode to ASIO and having my audio interface selected as the audio interface device in Sonar.

Also, here is a link to I believe your current documentation for your audio interface:

http://cdn-data.motu.com/..._Hybrid_Manual_Win.pdf

It looks like you want to read through Chapter 7, Configuring Host Audio Software, which begins on page 57.

So, bottom line - I believe this SHOULD be able to work using ASIO driver mode in Sonar.
