I'm posting here as a followup to this thread from Craig  http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3101974
Craig discusses in-house rewrites for improved performance as an ongoing process at TASCAM.  I'm trying to find out if the US-1800 has benefited from any of this ... or even if the US-1800 was already a solid interface for Win8.1/x64.
Is the US-1800 a good choice for good performance and reliability?

Anybody have any better info?  Craig?

A generic release note entry from 12-26-14 contains this blurb

The downloads link at TASCAM has this for US-1800 drivers, which matches the release note entry.

Sorry, I don't have a US-1800 so can't comment as to how it works with SONAR. Nor do I know what's going on with driver development for that particular unit. I suspect in-house drivers will happen going forward on new products, because previous products with third-party drivers would need the drivers re-written from scratch. Releasing an update a month ago would indicate that development is ongoing, whether by TASCAM or a third party.

Thanks Craig.  I was hoping maybe you some followup info post AES.  I guess sticking with later models makes more sense anyway.

I just read on gear slutz that they released the new us16x08 interface which replaces the us 1800 and had to pull them from the shelves right away because the drivers didn't work on windows. The few PC owners who did buy them are psiied because they are still waiting to be able to use the device. They apparently worked on Mac so it's a smaller group that got burned. Looks like their new in house drivers are not off to a good start.

Edit Feb 4 2015.
I see they did update some of the older drivers for the us series back in December. I gave up checking there a long time ago but just happened to look the other day.  So I have downloaded them and will dust off the us1641 and see what happens now. I haven't used it for a year now because of the crappy drivers. So it will be cool if the new drivers are actually better.

Speaking of TASCAM 16x08 - if they hold up after release, I believe that will be my next interface.
