Moving multiple tracks at once is a common request where response has been "It only takes thirty seconds".

Yeah, this one kind of gets in my way too. It would be VERY nice if I could just select a bunch of tracks and drag them into a folder all at once. Seems I have to do it one at a time. Same with just trying to reposition pairs or groups of tracks. Just doesn't happen.

I'd also kind of like to be able to right click on a folder and get an "Insert Multiple Tracks" dialog like in the Global menus... and actually have those tracks appear in the folder.

Just little things like that would seriously speed things up for me.

Don't get me wrong... Sonar's workflow in general is great for me which is why I like it. I just find it odd that these seemingly simple and logical little things haven't been implemented when so much focus has been put on some of the crazier/more intricate stuff.

Meh... I get by. That's why I come here and post these questions. If something isn't possible I usually get a few ideas of how to deal with it and hopefully the Bakers get a glance and consider doing something about it.

Platinum introduced a whole bunch of simple things I had been asking for so hey... maybe things like this will come down the pipe too.

Cheers.

No need to drag tracks, select them then right-click and "Move to Folder." One or a hundred it does not matter.

Hi Beep, just one (probably stupid) thought!

If you want all of these Fx to be the same and also to receive the same tweaks (making them all identical), why not just bus one instance via sends?

Need coffee.........

For certain things I definitely do that but since I am dealing with guitar sims they kind of have to be able to respond to that specific guitar signal on a case by case basis otherwise I fear it will just turn into a mess. Kind of like those amps that allow you to plug two guitars in at the same time (I own one of those). Sure you can kind of hear both guitars but they always seem to be fighting each other and the electronics end up processing things weird.

I also like to save the busses more for polishing and glueing... especially for multitracked guitars which can get kind of hairy. I'm sure you know what I mean.

Thanks though.

Cheers.

AHA! That's great. I know I've seen that but guess never used it.

That's one little irk sorted. Thanks, dood. It will save some time and exactly why I post these threads.

Cheers!

Hold up - in Track view you can select any tracks you want by control clicking them, right click one of them and select "Move to Folder"

This will only work for tracks not currently in a folder, if they are they have to be removed from folder first

I'm just wondering where in the creative process one has to add 20 tracks with the same effect or move 29 tracks around at once. I can see the need to perform these various tasks but not in connection with a moment of inspiration.

I provided some extra detail in my reply to Craig if you're curious but the short version is, yeah it would make initial set up grunt work easier but during the mix (which of course is creative) if I need to tweak something on multiple tracks (like let's say I want to dial back or increase the distortion on all the rhythm guitar tracks from inside the sim) then being able to just tweak one, copy it, select all the other rhythm tracks then insert the new version all at once makes things easier.

Of course being able to actually LINK all those instances would be much better (so I turn down the distortion on one and they all respond) but that is a much more elaborate/pie in the sky type of feature request.

One thing I am going to try today is hopefully create control groups across tracks on the FX Chain modules I put the sims into. So in the "turn the distortion up/down" scenario I just need to make sure beforehand that I map out the drive/dist parameter inside the sim to one of the FX Chains knobs (which of course I have to manually create) then create a control group across the tracks so all those knobs move at once (and thus change the parameter in the actual sim inside the chain).

That takes a lot thinking and planning ahead of time so it will be a bit of a workout for my little Beepster pea noodle... but that is the entire purpose of this specific project. It is huge, complex and I am going to attempt about a million and one things that I've been reading about, pontificating and generally trying to understand for the past three years. This project is going to be like a self imposed exam on how well I can actually do this stuff under real conditions with a real project (not one of my weirdo half arsed test projects).

;-)

Cheers.

Yeah, scook beat ya to it. Great tip. I should have known that one.

Still would be nice to just insert them into the folder in the first place.

I usually create my folders first then insert the tracks. I can't seem to insert the tracks directly into the folder which is weird because I could have sworn that was possible.

Did I again miss/forget something?

Thanks.

@scook...

Okay... that has not been working for me for whatever reason. The new track appears outside the folder BUT it may be some hotspot or dependent on how the project is set up? Or of course I could be crazy.

Doesn't matter the graphic is helpful and I'll give that a whack using that exact sequence to see what's up and whatever works will end up in my workflow.

However that's one track at a time. The only place I've seen the "Insert Multiple Tracks" option is in the Global "Insert" menu. If I could marry what you are showing in your helpful gif with "Insert Multiple Tracks" then that would be another irk slain.

Example would be what I had to do yesterday which was insert 4 rhythm guit tracks, 4 vocal tracks, 14 backup vocal tracks, about a dozen lead guitar tracks, various "extra" tracks, etc... that all needed to be in their own folders (subdivided by the list I just wrote).

If that capability exists then you would be the guy to know (and seriously dude... if you are going out of your way to test this stuff I really don't want to waste your time but if you do know that would be awesome info).

If it doesn't I can of course work as usual. Not really a whinge but trying to learn and/or maybe give a nudge to development to think about this stuff now that the program is stable and trucking along at a good monthly pace.

I will be giving some of these things a good poke around today. As I said I'm pushing the limits with this project to round out my knowledge and test my skills.

Thanks.

Edit: I seem to recall there may have been a recent "fix" where tracks were not being inserted into folders using the method you are showing under certain conditions. I am still on Dorchester so that could be what I am experiencing. Not sure if that was a regression thing or if it's just a recent improvement or if I compeltely imagined the whole thing. Just remember that being mentioned somewhere in a thread or eZine or something.

Yeah I get exactly what you mean Beep and 1) I don't think it's possible and 2) it would be extremely useful.
