Hi All!

First time post, just signed up.

I haven't been using Sonar for long, still learning and getting to grips with things. Have been able to solve most problems on my own either by poking it with a stick repeatedly, checking the help files or a quick search of google, but this one has me stumped.

So... Suppose I should say the current set up. I've got a AMD Quad Core PC, 4Gb ram (all high end stuff, I'm an IT nerd by profession so...) running Sonar 8.5 Producer. When recording I'm using my POD XT Live as a soundcard (primarily a guitarist). I have the ASIO drivers selected as they gave great latency.

Now... What I tend to do, is insert a Superior Drummer 2 soft synth, drum map, etc and get a basic beat with that. Works fine. Then, I hit record, and play guitar live over the top. Same for bass and overdubbing, etc.

The problem I'm having is that I have a lot of songs I'd like to use in Guitar Pro 5. Stuff I've worked on myself, or used as a simple way of throwing ideas back and forth between my bass player online. What I want to do is export the bass lines for here, then import them into Sonar to use with a VST bass plugin. Am using Cakewalks "Studio Instruments" SI-Bass Guitar and works fine if I program it with the piano roll.

If I import a midi track from GP5 though, no sound is produced. More strangely, it mutes the sound on my other tracks as well.

Seems like some sort of compatibility issue. I got the import working by usng the MMA drivers rather than ASIO, but that's no good as a permanent solution.

Hopefully there's a simply fix to this, but for all my looking around I haven't found one.

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to posting something usuful on here.... once you know... I know something useful to share.

Cheers

Luke

You just need to clean the MIDI Controller Data out of the GP5 MIDI tracks.  Basically, once the MIDI file is imported into Sonar, open the PRV or double click on one of the MIDI clips.  Bring up the Controller's Lane if you haven't yet (by pressing "C" on your QWERTY keyboard) and start deleting all those controller data you see there.  Some are just small black dots usually found in the beginning of the tracks.  To make sure you've deleted everything, except velocity of course (the top lane), click out of PRV and enter it again for that MIDI clip.  You should only see velocity data now.  If there is more than one lane, then you still have some data to erase.  Another method is to select the MIDI clip and go into the Event List View.  Look for Program Patch data and delete those as well.  Lastly, make sure everything is playing on Channel 1 by highlighting the MIDI clip and changing the Channel 1 in the Event Inspector View (this is different from the Event List View, btw).  Repeat for other MIDI tracks.

Once you do that you should hear sound and reprogram MIDI CC data as you please.

You sir... Are a star!

That fixed the problem right up. There were a bunch of commands in the event list view.

It's imported it in the wrong key/octave/whatever (haven't checked precicely yet) but that's a piece of cake to fix with a drag and drop.

Thank you very much!

The thread refers to shortcuts in older versions of SONAR but the info about Guitar Pro is accurate. PRV = Piano Roll View. You may want to look at is the Event list and remove the data up to the first note.
