  • [Solved] Gloucester update is still crashing on my new Windows 10 install

So I did the Windows 10 install this week. Initially, Sonar was crashing and only listed the foxborough update as latest. I did a manual CHECK in Command Center and that refreshed CC to show the Gloucester update.

I went through that install and tried to launch Sonar and it crashed immediately. Just says Sonarplt.exe has stopped working.
"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

That's it. No other data to provide. Sonar was working fine on Windows 8--on Windows 10, broken.

Please help.

Looks like the avrt.dll module is the problem to me. Do a Google search on it and you will see you are not alone,or you might reinstall Windows 10 . I am no expert so maybe someone who knows more about these things will chime in.

avrt.dll is a MS file relating to media playback not a Sonar file. Not saying Sonar isn't causing the crash. prob best send the crashlog via problem reporter and i'm sure the team will be able to verify if it's an issue just for your windows install or a global problem

Just in case this helps others. I had gone through most things I could think of, including reviewing some posts related to grabbing the old avrt.dll from the previous windows.

What did solve the problem was that rme audio released an updated driver in July which, after install solved the problem.

So, anyone suffering from this same problem please check to see that you have latest drivers--in this case, I have an internal PCI express card which was the cause of the crash.

Thanks.

This is pretty unlikely to be a SONAR issue. Some people had issues with avrt.dll in very early Windows 10 builds but there is no known issue in the RTM version of Windows 10. I have 3 PC's all running Windows 10 and there is no issue with this.
Which version of Windows did you upgrade and did you have the preview version of Windows 10 loaded earlier?

Yep you definitely need drivers that work with Windows 10,glad you solved it.

Odd that the RME driver would have anything to do with this since AVRT is the dll used by media foundation and SONAR uses it for video. Do you by chance happen to have the crash dump from when it was an issue? I can forward it to RME for their verification...
