I'm having trouble recording in Sonar X1. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit, and a Saffire Pro 24 DSP. I've tried multiple times to record something in Sonar, but every time I do the audio is skipping and popping. I'm not really sure how else to describe it. Also, when I try to monitor my voice when recording it's delayed. Right now it's just the default settings and I don't know what to switch it to. This is actually the second set up that I've tried and I'm still having the same exact problem so I know it's not the interface. If anyone can help that'd be great.

What drivers are you using for your interface?

Make sure you have the latest 64-bit driver for the soundcard and make sure you use it in ASIO mode. Be sure to select Use MMCSS in the preferences - playback and recording dialog.

Give a little more of what your computer specs are...sounds like a a driver or latency issue...

AS already suggested more system spec info will be a big help but for instant gratification I'd just try increasing your ASIO sample buffer or WDM latency time (depending on driver mode)

Sounds to me like you are trying to record at a latency too low for your system. If you then end up with unacceptable latency you can always look at ways of getting that lower.

It looks like all of you guys have way faster computers than me, but I don't see why I should be having a problem. I'm on a Macbook 13" i7 running bootcamp. If a desktop computer was an option right now I'd buy one, but I can't. But anyways I wasn't having a problem with Pro Tools so I don't see why I'd be having a problem with Sonar. I'll let you know what my driver settings are...

Under "Playback and Recording" driver mode is "WDM/KS" and dithering is "triangular". I have "use mutlitprocessing engine" checked and "use MMCSS" checked, everything else is off. And then the "command audition length" is 3 seconds. I'm pretty sure all of this is default. And to the person saying to use ASIO, when I tried that, it ended up just switching to my Macbook speakers, and it didn't allow me to choose my saffire pro 24.

On "Driver Settings", Playback Timing Master is Saffire Audio 1/2 and so is Recording timing master. "Audio Driver Bit Depth" is 24 and I have 64 bit double precision engine checked. Sampling rate is 44100. Under "Mixing Latency" Buffers in playback queue is 2, and buffer size is 24.5 msec and 1080 samples.

I really have no idea what all that means. I don't know why Sonar has to be so complicated, with Pro Tools and Studio One everything just worked out the gate. I appreciate all your help.

You can only have one ASIO device selected at a time. You need to deselect your Macbook speakers and apply. You can then select the saffire pro.

I'm a bit confused regarding your driver mode.

"Under "Mixing Latency" Buffers in playback queue is 2, and buffer size is 24.5 msec and 1080 samples."

If you are using WDM/KS you don't see a buffer size, you'll see a latency time adjusted via a slider. Try WDM or ASIO and find which works best for you.

I cannot record audio either from import mp3 wav or any other file.  Message says Cannot credit Riff file.  I also cannot record audio from my stereo mix using Realtek speakers soundcard.  Sound is getting through to the VU meter and through my speakers, but I get a message that Audio File cannot be created (gives no error number).
