  • Getting a bit "hacked off" with the Foxboro update.

I'm really hoping that the new update will fix a few hassles that I'm having with the Foxboro update.

The biggest problem that I'm having is that during drum recording sessions towards the end of a track the tempo of the track literally doubles in time. I haven't punched in, haven't inadvertently added a tempo change, nothing but straight recording. If I go back and punch in at the place where the tempo doubles, it's fine.

It's happening a bit too often though. Quite embarrassing when you have clients looking over your shoulder.

Another bit of nonsense happened this morning when I hit record to convert a midi track to audio and got this stupid message.

The only way I could get out was to ctrl alt del.

You hit record to convert MIDI to audio? How exactly were you doing that?

By simply playing a midi track and recording it to an audio track in real time.

As soon as I hit record that's what happened.

My guess is he's using outboard gear John. Not everyone does everything ITB, lol...

Unless you are routing the MIDI to an outboard synth and recording its output you can't just record a MIDI track to an audio track. First you need something to turn the MIDI into audio. A softsynth (software synth) is what many use.

Of course if you are working with the MS synth you are using the worlds worst sounding synth.  In the past this synth was only available if one used MME audio drivers. Not recommended.

Try using the TTS-1 synth in Sonar. Then all you have to do is freeze or bounce it.

Dan I use outboard gear too. I have an XV 5080 an SC 8850 and a DR 770.

Thats not what the OP said. Any rate lets see whats is going on here.

Yep, I'm using a Roland JV2080. Sorry, should have mentioned that.

Give me a step by step sequence of what you do to setup your audio track. What outs and ins are you using? More detail is better than less.

Hi John,

It's something that I've done a million times. It's nothing new but I've never had this kind of error before.

My sequence is basically:

1. Solo the midi track
2. Set the inputs on my Delta 1010 for a stereo input.
3. Play the outputs of the JV2080 into the inputs of the 1010.

I've been doing this for the past 15 years. Never had a problem until now. It also seems to be an isolated case as I'm not able to reproduce it.

I'm not that concerned about the midi problem.

The problem of tempos doubling in time is one that does concern me as it's only raised it's head in the Foxboro update and it's something that I can reproduce fairly often. I'm not doing anything different. It's the way I record drums using twelve tracks and the drummer playing to a click.

When I playback the tracks, at some point in the song the tempo will just double in time for no apparent reason. When you're paying session musicians for their time it's extremely frustrating to try and troubleshoot the problem.

I'm going to wait for the next update to see if it's fixed. If not I'll have to rollback to the previous update.

I'm sure that this is connected to the "fast bounce" and the tempo problem that others have discovered.

The stupid message was just the last straw for me on a very frustrating session.

Cheers,

Peter.
