Without looking at specs - I would think that Sonar needs some sort of audio device that will output via USB to your monitors. What audio device are you using in Sonar?

If you have an audio I/O, why not connect them via the audio I/O?.   You don't want to use the audio from the laptop to listen to sound through those speakers.

They have regular 1/4 inch jacks as well as XLR for audio connection, so use that.   If you don't have an audio I/O, then get one.

Why not get this to start with for only $59.00

Behringer U-Phoria UMC202HD
Check it out Sweetwater

Keep in mind that this doesn't have 3/4 out for external routing, for that you will need to pay more.

I imagine that to use them via USB you may have to select them in the audio preferences in Sonar - they may show up as an audio device. However, that will only allow you to playback and not record any audio inputs. Jesse G has some good advice above. I.e. use a dedicated audio interface and connect the speakers via jacks from the output of that.

You will have to go into preferences and chose a driver mode that supports the speakers. I couldn't find any info on the web site about what driver they use so we can assume they use WASPAI or WDM at least. I have a Behringer USB interface and it uses a USB CODEX which is unique to the audio world. But Windows automaticly installs it. IS that what you see when you look in your windows sound and devices, click on the speaker icon.

That should do. The Solo doesn't have balanced outs so phono to xlr/jack is what you need.

You can use either one of these to connect the monitors to the back of your Focusrite Scarlet Solo.

OR

I would go with the XLR to RCA myself, but that's just me talking out of my head... LOL

There is not much point in the XLR and it might cost more to purchase.
I would use the RCA to 1/4" TS cable. I have exactly that going from my Interface to my Kenwood integrated stereo amp.

It would be interesting to get the USB part working as it would be fine for people who are not recording audio and only working In the Box.
