FYI update toast notifications are working again (as relevant to 24.09). Toast will present automatically and via Help > Check for Update.

The popup stays on screen and is very easily visible. I think there was an issue where the back end was not reporting the correct version to the 09 release which is why you didn't see it. It will get resolved soon...

In fact, I was using 2018.10 and never got that update notification.
So I did the manual update via Bandlab assistant.
Let's see if that gets resolved in 2018.11.

When you say 'toast notification' is something like this?:

Because this is a generic warning and as there are always many, we do not always pay attention. The ideal would be a central popup with user confirmation, as it happens in most software.

Really?

There is this forum, where someone will always post within the first 24 hours that a new version has dropped. There is the BandLab Assistant, whose job is to sit there and watch the server to see if there's a new version available, and it has an option to launch whenever you start your computer. You can check it any time if Cakewalk itself isn't running. There is now a popup notification upon program launch that a new version is available. At any time when you're using the program, if you are curious you can click on the Help menu and select Check for Updates.

All of this isn't enough to keep you aware that there's a new version?

I have an idea. Maybe BandLab can expose a bit of their API to allow someone to code a link from BA to trigger a Google Voice SMS so that those of you who need to be alerted immediately when there's an update can get a text on your phones 24/7, even when you're away from your computers.

Would that be enough, or do you already get so many text alerts that you can't pay attention to all of them?

We can come up with a solution if we work together. I think this a much better issue to tackle than silly things like ripple edit indicators.

To put it straight, Erik.

that's the last thing i'd want! that requires a google account, with phone number... haven't you been keeping up with the whole data-scraping/sharing hoo-har? (but maybe that's their business plan) who needs more than an email for an update??

I did not ask for your irony, I just asked if the CbB updates notice would behave in the same format that most software uses, that is, when entering the software, it searches for a new version, and if there is, it asks the user if he has an interest in updating or not.

True, you did not. But you said "since there is no more information in this forum about any new version in CbB," which I thought was odd, given that there is information in the forum, and then all the other, faster ways there are to find out about updates. Why look on the forum when you can check BA or the Help menu?

Okay here's the real talk: I don't like it when program launch grinds to a halt to ask me if I want to update.

Especially in the case of programs like the current CbB, where the updates are many and usually don't contain things that I can't wait 48 hours to find out about. I'm as excited as anyone about new features, but the bugs are getting few.

I don't want to be in my studio with everyone gathered and ready to listen to the mix or do some tracking, double-click on the project file, and have my DAW halt and throw up a box asking me if I want to download the latest version. It's just an annoyance that slows down the session.

How about if the update notification toast were a different color? That would make it more eye-catching. Not red, because that would signify an error condition, but green, or yellow, or gold, something that would stand out from the blue.

No irony there, rather a compromise solution. :-)
