Am I correct in saying that Rene is no longer with Cakewalk?

That would be correct...

His departure from Cakewalk followed by the release of z3ta 2 makes me wonder if the two are connected (changes he didn't approve of?)

I don't think that Rene has been around for a while so z3ta+2 doesn't really have his "signature" on it :(

I'd be interested to know the real reason for his depature - not some "sanitized" corporate version...

After all - it was his genius that inspired all of these synths and the sfz format...

Unfortunately Elvis has left the building :(

He is the reason I bought Rapture now I wonder what's Rapture's future. The 64bit version crashes my PC so I'm pretty pessimistic about Rapture 2 without MAJOR bugs.

I wonder if Cakewalk had him sign something that restricts him from creating something like Rapture if he leaves.  Anyway, I hope he resurfaces on KVR and tells us what are his plans because I'm a fan of his synths and customer service.

Who knows the status of Rene leaving except for him and his hairdresser?  Anything else is rank speculation.

Cake "bought" (OK, maybe licensed is the more correct term) RGC's stuff when they brought on Rene.  And no doubt they own his work with them.  One doubts he could make Rapture 2 and there might be a time-limited non-competition clause.  However, the SFZ format is open source as far as I can tell, and he could (and I hope does) come up with something new ASAP.  I wish him the best, as I do cakewalk.
