If so what's your opinion of the keyboard "feel" on 61 key model. Is it more or less the same as the early versions of the Motif? Our local Guitar Center only has the 88 key model and I'm not that rich.

I'm Jealous - the MOXF's are nearly an entire Motif, minus a few audio output channels, but I'm broke....

I have a MO8, which I think has the same keybed as the MOX series. If that's correct, then it's the same keybed used in the Roland digital pianos and the reason I chose the MO8 over a Motif, which had a mushier synth-type feel that I didn't care for.

I have a Yamaha MOFX8.

the keybed on moxf6 and moxf8 are a bit different in feel.  the moxf6 is like a synth keyboard, kinda mushy not true weighted or anything.

the MOXF8 has a bit more solid feel but it's still not weighted keybed or anything.

I come from synth hardware so weighted keys aren't my thing. I needed the 88 keys for kontakt keyswitches and got tired of hitting transpose on my 49 controller.

you might want to look at the Roland FA6.  it's slightly cheaper than the MOXF line.  the FA6 and MOXF6 felt very similar in feel to me.  HOWEVER with the Roland you can load extra downloaded banks, eiser menu system better screen etc.

really boils down to how you like the feel of the keyboard and what features you like more.

I had an MOXF6 for about a week!

The keys felt really flimsy and I couldn't live with them at all. Much lighter than my Motif XS6.

On the plus side, it sounded amazing and was light as a feather.

Thanks guys, but my real question was how does the 61 key version compare feel-wise on the keyboard to the original 61 key Motifs from 10-15 years ago. Those synths had what was essentially the old DX7 keyboard with little lead weights in them. Is the MOXF6 the same? Or did Yamaha change that design? I wish our local GC had one to play, but they just have the 88 key version which is out of my price range.

I have a MOTIF 6 61 keys and it felt like the MOXF6 keys when I played it at my local guitar center.  synth like feel to the keyboard, nice and responsive.  I picked the MOXF8 88 keys mostly cause I needed the extra keys but the MOXF8 has a slightly tighter feel to the keybed, not weighted or semi weighted just tighter or springier.

in comparison the Korg Krome 61 key I tried felt like a toys-r-us $50 toy keyboard.  the keys were horrible.  the MOXF6 61 keyboard felt like a responsive synth keyboard which fit my playing style and didn't hurt my hands from playing.

I played a Roland FA8 88 keyboard and felt different in a bad way, I like the Yamaha 88 keyboard better.

Roland FA6 61 keyboard and the Yamaha MOXF6 both felt sort of similar in the keybed, synth like, not weighted or semi weighted at all, both responsive.  I still might buy a Roland FA6 for sounds but thinking I might buy the Integra 7 instead so no need for yet another keyboard - and I have the MOXF8 so.

Roland FA6 61 keyboard or Yamaha MOXF6 are very similar in features, just different sounds.  you could pick either one and be happy.

Thanks, that's what I was wondering. Our local GC has the KORG Krome and I was appalled at the keyboard action as well. It's almost like they want you to buy the 88 key model. I'm still going to try to track down a MOXF6 to play before making the purchase.

I'm lucky enough to live where there are 3 guitar centers to drive to and several other music shops.

I really recommend playing with one before ya buy it - though you could order from sweetwater or someplace that has a return policy.

only you are gunna know if the keyboard feels right to you.

I'm gonna try to find one somewhere to play first. Not big on buying keyboards without playing them. I'd love to get the 88 key model, but it's the additional cost of a divorce lawyer that keeps me from buying it!
