I decided to get rid of my old 1010LT (it's currently on ebay ;-) ) but thats only really due to the drivers or lack of..so was thinking , do I wait for windows 10 to see who drops their cards into legacy... or buy a new one.

think I will buy an RME this time , joke being I would have bough that instead of the 1010LT but they delayed it by a year and I got fed up of waiting.

I have a saffire , that'll do as a stop gap I guess.. but this whole legacy thing, sure companies need to sell new cards but I hate chucking working things (like scanners etc.) to landfill.

all of us have must at least of got rid of 1 thing that worked perfectly fine , except for drivers

I made the jump from XP to 8.1 in early '13.  I stayed with XP for a very long time.  At first it was because there really wasn't a compelling reason to move to the likes of Vista.  Then it was lack of driver support in the new OSs for all of my hardware.

Hopefully I'll be able to get similar mileage out of 8.  I'm on the watch for a new interface to replace my Delta66 ... once that is done I plan to sit and use what I have until Windows 24 or so :)

My FireStudio 2626 runs my entire studio.  26 inputs AND outputs (including s/pdif). A/B/Surround monitor switching. Nice big remote volume knob. More headphone channels, in stereo, than I can possibly use (I can rig up 8). Built in or remote talkback. All inputs on front panel for easy access. Switchable PC sound monitoring. Direct input monitoring/routing to any headphone channel.  Audio mute/dim.  Mono/stereo switchable for monitors.  Drivers frozen at Win7 !!!!

If I want to upgrade my studio PC from Win7 I have to effectively rip out my studio and start from scratch.  And I can't find any replacement that does everything the FireStudio does.

The list of abandoned (quality) hardware is long...

  • Frontier Dakota, Montana, and Sierra (rock-solid audio/MIDI hardware)
  • Emu 1820m (great converters and super low noise-floor)

If it's a center-piece of your studio, it can be a major PITA to replace (a la Karyn's scenario).

yep it's either that or something is discontinued OR the company vanishes at short notice .e.g. NI Kore and camel audio Alchemy. I just would rather get a newish released card, so I'm not gonna get stung with no drivers within 2 years. I got tired of having the rug pulled ages ago.
