You already had your moratorium on changes to the program from November 21, 2017 to April 3, 2018, thanks to the wonderful folks at Gibson.

You are not compelled to update should they change your daw to a daw you don't like / can't use so it's all good. Just wait after each update for a few days until it seems cool to update.

IMHO it is not that easy! Well, you can stay on an older version as long as your PC runs, is not replaced or you don't do a clean setup of Windows. But you do not have the same possibility like with CC anymore to install an older release if you want to.

In respect to the OP I have to add that it is also my nature to be sceptical. But what I have seen with BandLab and CbB I am positively surprised so far!
On the other hand if I look at the updates of Windows 10, Skype, the European Union, the Swedish state, my internet connection, quality of consumer products, ..., then there are a lot of reasons not to feel confident in the future!

Actually, you can, by copying the older cakewalk.exe install file and running that *after* installing the latest version (to do the authorisation).  Or at least, that will work in theory.

I would prefer more of a focus on fixing long standing bugs over new functionality, at least for a while.

As for "no change" though firstly you might as well stick with SPlat which definitely won't change and secondly my vote for no change in CbB is NAY.

Meng. Don't change anything within the DAW itself. Keep it free. Think in terms of upgrades, not updates.

An idea:
Why not use Bandlab assistant like Gibson used Command Center, but instead of monthly free updates and paid DAW subscription, reverse it. Let the current version remain free and sell new features as upgrades as you develop them quarterly. Don't force it on everyone to please the minority. If they want the DAW changed, make them pay for it.

Oh, I get it.  This is a free DEMO, then.  Thanks for clarifying that.  In that case now I know I'll just go back to using X3 before I get any further into using this.  Thank you, Mickey.

Instead of listening to Mickey the Monster, who's lobbying to stopping the development of CbB ... I think you would be better off listening to what BandLab and the owner Meng have to say about the matter. After all he's the one who makes the decisions for the future of Cakewalk.

Yeah.  I guess I should do that, but there are so many announcements of late that I don't have time to look at them all.  What I usually do is start at the SONAR part of the forum and go down the first page.  But I guess, since there seems to be so much speculation and ideas from people who aren't part of the final decisions I should make more of an attempt to filter out most but Meng's/Bandlabs.

I was really looking forward to having "real ownership" of all my Cakewalk purchases with no need for an internet account. To use Platinum as is. To use all of my Cakewalk purchases "as is".

I (and everyone else) was informed that would happen when customers would no longer have access to their Cakewalk purchases via the Cakewalk website.

Do you not still have access to your Cakewalk purchases via the Cakewalk website? My Cakewalk Command Center still works, is it hosed up for some people?

Yes I still have access. I don't know if others are having troubles.

Of course your questions from concern are misdirecting my comments. It's not a question of access to my Cakewalk purchases.
My statements were an answer and opinion to the OP.
I stated that I would have and would still be content with no updates nor upgrades to any and all of my Cakewalk purchases and to "own" them as is -and as it was stated would happen IF the website with my account went down and unfortunately for me this site is still operating and I'm still having to monitor it waiting to see if I ever gain "ownership" of my purchases. (which I also stated I don't think will happen now that BandLab showed up)

I don't understand how my original post wasn't clear but I hope this resolves your confusion...of course your concern of others troubles is something I can't help you with.

i think the (probably unofficial) offer to "unlock" cakewalk sonar was made while everything was still "up in the air" after the initial surprise news, and it didn't get implemented before bandlab bought it, so it's no longer legally possible to just do the unlock on the pre-bandlab version(s) without bandlab giving it the ok (which of course they don't have to do, they have no legal commitment to cakewalk customers, but they still might you never know)

(and i wish they 'd chosen a different name than "cakewalk" because it makes this kind of discussion confusing)

One thing you should consider, given the latest news for Gibson Brands filing for Chapter 11, is that it is likely that you in the near future will have a contract and license with a non existent company. You will be forced to take a loss along with all other stakeholders and creditors to the company. Your license will become null and void.

Now ... the good news is this ... the new owner of the IP to which you hold a license, are offering a bridge over troubled waters ... saying you can keep whatever you have without having to pay for it again. Just register with the new IP owner ... and all is good. That is an admirably kind offer, and definitively not in line with the London School of Economics thinking.

I've been using Cakewalk since the year 2000. Back then it was Pro Audio 8 and was the most expensive piece of software I had ever bought. But that price paled in comparison to the amount I spent on building my own DAW. Here it is, 18 years later and the same basic DAW is in place (well the CPU and OS have changed, along with some of the hardware) and I'm still using Cakewalk. And it still gives me fits, but there's almost always a solution to them -- I might not be able to find that solution, but usually somebody here is generous enough to help out and get me unstuck.

Bottom line: I can produce the music I hear in my head with SPlat and its many add-ons. So I really hope that any future changes are gradual ones that I can easily adopt into my mix.
