I don't do competitions or contests. But I will be happy to be on the panel of judges if asked.

Would really like to try 'Drivin' by Steve Dior band (someone at Cakewalk recorded it in Sonar if I'm correct).
ITS SUCH A KICKASS SONG !!!

Keep it coming folks. Some good ideas here.
How about we start with a song format. A theme/genre, so many tracks, vocal, bass , drums and synth whatever. Start with a few tracks to which the members add just a single track. When we have the required number of tracks and variations thereof, close the intake of tracks and start the mix part. Entrants pick from the available tracks and mix to taste. The best mix wins. That ensures there's an opportunity for creativity and to show off your Sonar skills.
Lots of details to work out but I'm up for it.

Love this idea!  (Although I too would have a difficult time setting aside my Pro-Q 2 if we stuck with Sonar-only plugins, but that certainly makes for a more interesting competition, not to mention a level playing field!)

Maybe raw tracks for a different genre every month, or whatever timeline is established?  And Olympics-style Gold/Silver/Bronze awards for the top three vote-getters so the community can see how differently the same tracks could be mixed by different people?

I also like the idea of adding an element of arrangement.  Maybe for each song, there are two categories: one being a straight-up mix of only the tracks provided, and another allowing for additional instrumentation, background vox, etc.

Anyway, again, great idea.  I definitely agree that some friendly competition will help remind the community of why we're here in the first place - to make music - as opposed to the tendency to get caught up in discussions about bugs, missing features, etc.

Definitely going to be tracking this thread!!

+1 to everything.

I've done plenty remixes before, but I'd love to participate here.   I also agree with the stock plugins aspect - let's see just how creative people can be using what SONAR delivers.

I am all for it, Mike.

I think it is a great idea.

A couple of weeks has passed with no comments so before the idea dies completely I thought I'd resurrect this thread and give others a chance to comment.

If enough people contribute to the thread I'll do what I can to make a mix contest of some sorts a reality for the Sonar members.

I have to spend all my learning time using the stuff I need to work on... and I'm too new to be much competition.

You guys have at it!
