  • Confusion and frustration on D-Pro vs. Dimension Pro vs. Sonar Platinum vs. Rapture Pro?

Bringing this up again because I'm still confused.  Is D-Pro the same as Dimension Pro and why is "Dimension Pro" not listed under Sonar Platinum in my Command Center as it supposed to be a part of Platinum? (according to Cakewalks version compare listing).

In the command center it shows the latest version of D-Pro at 1.5.5.16.  But showing my same D-Pro license going back to 2013?  I also have a "Dimension Pro 1.5" license separate from my "D-Pro" license? (in My Products)

If I enter "Dimension Pro" in shop.cakewalk.com I brings me to a "Buy Now" on Rapture Pro?  So is Rapture Pro actually a replacement of "Dimension Pro"?

To be blunt, this is sorta a little ridiculous ... who's on first, I don't know, no he's on second, say what, he's on third.  I realize the objective here is probably to "shuffle and re-badge products to confuse and sell" but that doesn't really leave me feeling good about Cakewalk products.

I really would appreciate some clarification of what is what and a road map of products.

D.  Pro = Dimension Pro.  The reason it is separate from Sonar Platinum is that it is a standalone program that was included as a goodie with Platinum (same as AD2 except that its published by Cake).  It is now included (at least the functionality and soundbanks) in Rapture Pro, which is a separate program, not currently bundled with Sonar.

I think D-Pro is Dimension Pro. And it is still the same as it was several years ago. They use to have different serials for different Sonar versions, but that was more about concrete download binary dependent, not really different versions of D-Pro.

Rapture Pro is the replacement for D-Pro and Rapture.

D-Pro is what many people call it, it's like a nickname...same thing as people saying "Coke" instead of "Coca-Cola," or "A&P" instead of "The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company." Some also call it Dim Pro or just DP.

Rapture Pro combines the functionality of Dimension Pro and Rapture, with additional features specific to Rapture Pro.

The 1.5.5.16 is just a longer build name for 1.5. CCC should tell you if the version installed is older. The program/samples have not changed much for years and IIRC, the new builds of some components was to simply make them more CCC-friendly.

Bottom line, do NOT buy it again (ironically, the CW store won't stop you from buying the same thing repeatedly).

Dimension (from P5) begat Dimension Pro (or Dimpro or DPro), a stand alone sample playback synth.  It was later bundled with SONAR Pro and is still bundled today.  Each new SONAR version seemed to update the serial #, which was confusing in the old store.  DPro begat Rapture, which is a similar looking synth but with a different sample set and included many step sequencers for control.  Note, they all use the SFZ format which points the sample set in either synth as well organizes them, both across the keyboard as pitch and in depth, layering them.  SFZ will do a lot more, but you can run the SFZ files (along with the associated samples) in either synth.  If it isn't included in the Pro version of SONAR yet it will be.  Because both synths begat Rapture Pro,  which has the extensive DPro sample set and Rapt plus the 6 engines (Elements) of Rapture as well as the step sequencers.  And there are a bunch new presets and samples.

...which is different from "Rapture FULL" as per the Platinum version comparison... lol

Looks like a customer can no longer buy Dim Pro and Rapture from Cakewalk Store. If you click 'buy' it takes you to the Platinum Package, or subsequently to Rapture Pro.
Perhaps they can move the Dim Pro & Rapture into the Platinum Folder in CC. Just that not everything sold with the Sonar Platinum is under that Folder anyway.

Rapture Pro was an odd name to choose IMHO. Raptured dimension would have been better perhaps (still pretty poor I admit).

I purchased Rapture Pro ... installed it an it does indeed show the Dimension Pro and Rapture classic libraries.  So I guess to answer my question I should NOT install D-Pro that is listed in my CCC since it is now part of Rapture Pro.

Funny thing when I installed Sonar Platinum, I selected different install locations for all the software ... basically I didn't want ANYTHING under "Program Files ..." as Windows treats those folders with different security rights and can prevent access to requesting programs.  I got a warning "bad things can happen..." because I selected a different set of installation paths ... the irony here is that "bad things can happen" when use the default paths (C:\Program Files...).  Anyway, it's all working well so I have no idea what that warning was about.

I think I'm sorted, thanks to everyone for their input.

Cheers, Rob.
