I've been having this problem for a long time now, and couldn't solve it so far: no matter what version of sonar I use, whenever I click on the volume knob of any track, the volume knob jumps to the maximum or to the minimum and there's no way to set it to another level, except maybe with the scroll wheel (but it's still not precise at all). I never had this problem before: I could always set the volume knob to the desired level, by pulling it up or down. But now it's all ****ed up. I tried to install other versions of Sonar and to use different computers, and nothing changed. Do you have any idea how to solve this issue? I really like Sonar, but I'm afraid I will have to switch to another DAW due to this problem.

Well, it's not an inherent SONAR bug, so we need to look elsewhere. What version are you using? Track view, console view, or both? Are you using an external controller? Was snap to = current set inadvertently? Are you in offset mode? What happens if you turn off automation Read for channels? Does this happen will all projects, or only some?
 
The first thing to do is turn off automation read for all channels. That will determine if the volume controls are being influenced by automation or not.

Thank you Anderton. I had this problem on Sonar 7 (64 bit) and on Sonar X3 (64 bit) recently, and probably even on Sonar 8 in the past. I'm using Windows 8 at the moment. I have turned Automation Read off like you said, but the problem is still there, both on Track view and console view, for every track. I am using an external controller, a midi keyboard (the iRig keys), but I unplugged right now and nothing changes. I don't know what you mean when you talk about the "snap to", but I think I don't have any odd settings. Thanks again.

I have experienced what you described when using a controller where the sliders were programmed as MIDI switch controllers instead of continuous controllers.
 
You need create as basic a setup as possible and work up from there. I don't know whether you were using the same controller when you had these problems before, or even if you are having problems with the volume knob when using MIDI, audio, or both.
 
I suggest disconnecting your controller, rebooting your computer, opening SONAR, and creating a new project. Do not include any control surface plug-in. Try recording audio and then seeing if the volume control works normally.
 
This is a situation where support is often the best choice because it is essential to ask follow-up questions, as I am doing here. I do not know where you are from so don't know if calling is difficult for you. Meanwhile, we can keep trying...but more information would be helpful.

Thank you. I am from Italy so I don't think I can call the support, but I did as you said: I unplugged the controller, I restarted my computer and opened a new project on Sonar. I still have the same problem!!

With audio or MIDI? Or both? When you opened a new project, you had to create some kind of track to have a volume control. Was it a MIDI track? Recorded audio? Bringing in a standard MIDI file?
 
Does this happen with buses too, or only tracks? Consider contacting Cakewalk about having a Skype session if the cost of calling is too expensive, perhaps they can do that.
 
It's frustrating because I think if I was in Italy at your studio, I could find out what the problem is in less than 15 minutes. And then I could go get a great Italian dinner! But it would be more expensive for me to fly there than to call Cakewalk  

Ahahah :P The problem happens with both audio and midi, and also on buses!! I even changed mouse, but I still have the same issue. :( What if we use Team Viewer? You think you'd manage to solve the problem by accessing my pc in remote? THANK YOU for the great support.

I'm not a support person, and am not set up to do desktop remote. Obedia.com does that kind of thing. I suggest emailing Cakewalk about the possibility of a Skype session. If you have a SONAR membership you are entitled to free tech support.

I will try to contact the technical support then. Meanwhile, do you have any other ideas to try and fix this thing? Am I the only person in the world who has this problem with Sonar? Cheers,
