  • [Solved] Why can't I drag audio from Explorer into Sonar? (X3e)

This used to work for me at one point but recently I've found that I can't drag any kind of audio file from Windows Explorer into Sonar. No matter where I try to drop it (either on an existing audio track or in a blank space in the clips pane), I just get the "restricted" icon and it won't drop. I know I can drag files from the browser, but dragging from Explorer should work and it worries me that I can't do it. Any ideas?

Try it when running Sonar as administrator. Or if you are already doing it try not running Sonar as administrator.

I'm running as administrator. Running not as administrator fixes the problem. However, I'd prefer to run Sonar as administrator because not doing so introduces other problems. If I can't drag from Explorer into Sonar while running as administrator, well, that sucks!

Yeah the bug has been reported. I'd try and get away from running as admin, rather open up permissions in the registry for the plugins that need it if at all possible.

No problems here. Drag-n-drop works for me.

I run as admin also. Why would this cause problems? I thought you needed to do this for certain things to be written to file/access files.

I have the same problem.  I really miss dragging because it's soooooo much easier than working through the browser.

That is OS related. This solution http://www.altofran.com/2013/07/solving-windows-8-drag-n-drop-issue.html
should work in most cases.

Danke, Sandmannchen!! That explains a lot of (non-Sonar) issues I had when helping out a friend who was running Windows 8. It was driving me crazy.

Thanks for posting this question.   This started happening when I moved to w8. I used words yesterday when my yearn to drag was thwarted.

Another good reason to have a dedicated audio computer.
