• SONAR
  • Clone Synth Output Track vs. Insert Audio Track

I was trying out a technique of mixing synth drums using multiple instances of EZDrummer 2.  In one instance of EZD2 I deleted too many output tracks and wanted to add them back.

There is no option to 'Insert' a synth output track from the Insert Menu, but Sonar will 'Clone' an existing output track.

Now as I typed this, I wondered if inserting an 'Audio' track and setting it's input to EZD2 would do the same thing.  Yes it does, and the track type changes accordingly.

How about that.  I learned two new things....

Exactly. A "Synth Track" is just an audio track with its input assigned to a soft synth out. And doing that automatically removes the Record and Input Echo buttons, and adds the waveform preview button. Otherwise, they're the same.

Thank you.

I knew a synth track was unique, but I never knew how exactly or noticed what was missing from the track strip, and I'd never had occasion to 'add' one before.
