Hi there, has anyone come up with a way of linking track settings between projects? Ie recording 3 songs across 3 projects that will use the same multi drum settings / same vx settings.. At the moment I'm copying all the fx and settings from one project to another.
I know you have templates which is a great starting point but if you then change the settings you need to do it for all the other projects?
You could record an album using one project but that really does eat up alot of CPU and can get messy when using things like drum replacer and audiosnap.
I have tried using the prochannel and inserting FX into there and saving the Channel with a unique name, but youve still got to load that setting for each project track and if you make one change youd need to load the new setting into the other project tracks again.

Would be great if theres a way to link tracks within different projects - maybe its already possible please let me know!

There is no way to link projects where making a change in one will make the corresponding changes in the others. Not even a workaround.

There is Mix Recall it allows you to save mix settings that can be opened in another project. That may do what you want.

I think this may be something of help. Select 3. Mix Recall Templates

Many Thanks for the reply Mike. I'll give the recall a go!

The write-up there implies that the settings are only available in new projects that are created from that template; is that so?

If so, that's a shame, because being able to 'paste' Mix Recall settings in an existing project would be very useful to me (and probably the only time I would ever use Mix Recall).

To the original poster - I usually solve this problem through a mixture of Track Templates (I can create the new tracks in the target project, then move all the clips to the new tracks so they have the right settings), and in future I will probably use FX Chains presets (because then I only have to remember 1 preset to load rather than several). But mostly, I end up with the boring task of noting down gain and fader levels on everything. It helps if you can keep things simple - in my case, I usually only have to worry about FX, routing, and track/bus fader panning and levels. But this is one of the things that frustrates me about trying to mix whole albums in Sonar.

Thanks for the replies guys, it seems as though none of the other DAW's do this either and could be an opportunity for Sonar to be a leader at this.
To Kylotan I think adding FX into the Prochannel is a good way forward so you can at least save the settings, and the ability to use mix recall across projects could be of benefit, will try it out, I'll also put the suggestion to Sonar about linking and see what they say!

I guess it's not a solution after the fact. You need to save the template with the mix recall settings that you want in a project you're yet to create on the template that contains the mix scenes you want to use.

But Mix Recall has already had some evolutionary work done to it in its short life and I wouldn't be surprised to see more. For me this is the single most powerful feature in Sonar Plarinum. As I've said earlier I don't think too many have explored the depth this has.
