I have to install and start using Pro Tools (as well as Sonar. I'm not leaving my baby behind!)

I'm wondering if I can leverage some or all of the instruments and effects I have for Sonar. I'm particularly concerned with TH2 as it's my go-to virtual drum instrument.

Just as an FYI - the reason I'm adding Pro Tools is because I'm working with a team who require me to have it. It's NO slight agains Sonar. I love Sonar!

One of the more experienced users will not doubt step in here but in the meantime.  Any regular VST's you have installed would be obviously available if PT still recognizes that format.  Anything Pro Channel, or that was bundled with Sonar, (like Melodyne Essential), I'm guessing would not be accessible in PT, (other than the VST version of the CA2A).  I think TH2 was bundled with Sonar.

Sorry to see you're having to go over to the dark side.  LOL

Which version of Sonar and PT are you using?

Certain plugs like the Blue Tube suite are locked into Sonar.

Hello,

And based on your version of PT  you may some type of vst wrapper or porter to use anything other than RTAS (</=PT10) or AAX (>/= PT 10) . And again PC plugins will not work as they are native to Sonar. In regard to TH2 if you have the full version, you have access to both RTAS and AAX formats. IHTH....

I havent used Pro tools in awhile, but i know my sonar picks up vsts from Fl studio and vise versa so id assume it would be the same, but like Paul G said.. if it came bundled with sonar, Incorporated into the sonar system it prolly wont recognize it.

I don't know any of the plugins that came with Sonar are available as RTAS for PT9 and earlier, AAX 32 for PT10 and AAX64 for 11 and 12.

If you bought a stand alone version of any synths from Sonar they may have RTAS or AAX versions but I doubt it.

You won't be able to use any Sonar plugins directly in Pro-Tools, Pro-Tools uses a different format (AAX vs VST). But... Pro-Tools supports rewire, Reaper can load VST plugins while acting as a rewire slave (it's the only DAW that does that). Note that some bundled plugins will only work with Sonar but you should be able to use D-Pro, Rapture, etc. if you go that route.

Just out of curiosity, what is their rationale that you have to have PT?
