So i changed driver mode to ASIO to record something and then i have changed it back to MME 32bit for playback .
But now everything just sound awful in playback , Like terrible ..a stuttering slow down kind of mess .
Sound in other applications is fine . Like media player and websites .
What needs to be changed  ?

It was Buffer size - Under Mixing Latency - Have no idea why it changed but i put it two notches to the right and its all back working fine..

The reason i tried changing driver mode is because when i record with my mic it is so quiet .
Its a Behringer C-1u plugged into my Presonus Audiobox - I have phantom power turned on and the input control for mic set too full and it is still quiet unless i hold my in hand and sing directly into it .

Can anyone shed any suggestion on why it is doing this  ? ?
Thanks
Dan

Record and playback in MME mode for it to sound right, or record and playback in ASIO mode for it to sound right. The problem is that you recorded in ASIO and are playing back in MME mode. I think you can be OK if you recorded in WDM and playback in ASIO or vise versa, but MME mode doesn't playback when recorded in one mode and played back in another.

Why did you switch back to MME? I recommend ASIO mode, if your audio interface has ASIO drivers.

Short answer is: if you record in ASIO mode, playback in ASIO mode. If you record in MME mode, playback in MME. That's how to fix it, or delete the recording and stay in MME mode and record over in MME mode and then playback in MME mode (Which I do not recommend to do unless you have to). Using WDM mode is better than using MME mode!

Hope that helps.

Yes thanks i have edited original post .. Can you maybe help in the issue that got me to change in first place .

Currently i need some typoe of adapter to enable me to use my speakers as output connected to the Aduiobox .
So will stick with MME until i get that adapter.

Main issue is Mic is too quiet . Even though input control on Audiobox is at full

Thanks

Are you sure everything is OK in your signal path, because it's unusual for a mic to be too quiet using the preamps built into an audio interface. Are you trying to connect your mic through a line in input of your audio interface? If so you need a mic preamp if you're gonna connect the mic to a Line In input.

If you're using a built in preamp on your audio interface, and the mic is at full gain and still too quiet, you need an outboard preamp. Unless your audio driver software supplies a gain plug in, in which case you can use a gain plug in to get the mic signal up higher, but it will introduce increased noise.

You can also try to find a freeware gain plug in, but I don't know any. It's better to have an outboard mic preamp. Or use the built in preamp/s on your audio interface, instead of the Line In input/s without a preamp.

Hope that helps.

Yes it is connected to the Line in (a) of my audio interface , The guitar is superb going into Line in (b)

So i need some kind of Mic preamp  ? ?

I mean i can hear my vocals and all but it is very quiet .

You need a preamp to boost the signal when connecting a mic to a Line In input.

I thought that is what the Audiobox was doing  ?

Any suggestions on a cheap and cheerful preamp  ?

It's a good idea to put your system specs in your signature, so we can be a better help faster.

What exactly is your audio interface? Does it have built in mic preamps? If it does, why on earh are you not connecting your mic to one of them?
