Here's a question that just popped into my head!

I've always just assumed the signal flow through the Pro Channel is top down. Now I've just read the documentation on Console Emulation, which says it's normally recommended to put the CE first in the chain.

If that's what Cake recommends, and the Console Emulation is at the bottom of the channel... have I been wrong about the order of signal flow?

Is it bottom up?

Bottoms up,

Signal flow is from top to bottom.

Having spoken with both people from Cake and Overloud (who developed the CE), it probably works best last in the chain (at the bottom).  I am unsure as to why the documentation states otherwise.

Having said tat, there is nothing to stop you experimenting.  I put it last in the chain everywhere, unless I am using a limiter, in which case that goes last.

There is no right or worn way. If you want the CE to emulate everything before, then you put it last in the signal chain. if you do not want the CE to effect any plugins, then you put in in the chain appropriate to what your needs are.

There is no best way to use it. The best way is the way that best fits your song or tracks.

I agree with all the answers above. If you like how it sounds, it is right. No need to make changes to what already works. Experimentation is the key to future music

Bear in mind the effect of the CE is quite subtle, you won't appreciate what it's doing until it's inserted on every track and you A/B between the 2 (mix recall is perfect for this)
