  • Will Cakewalk Bandlab files be backward compatible with Producer X3? (p.2)

Thank you so much!  I will download and install Cakewalk Bandlab tomorrow.  I tried to put a screen capture photo of the RGC Enhancer, but it didn't seem to work.  Maybe it takes time for it to be processed.
I guess you'll want to know what I think about it.  I'll post it here soon... it will be great!

If you are going to open Cakewalk BL projects in X3, then save them again, I'd recommend the following:

1. Use "Save As" to save the project under a different name.
2. Either:
     (a) Open the original project in Cakewalk BL, then drag the new X3 project in from the Media Browser. This will create new tracks for the ones imported from X3 and you can cut/paste what you need from the tracks whilst keeping things like ProChannel EQ settings etc intact.
      or
     (b) Open both projects in Cakewalk BL, then cut/paste between them.

Personally, I've found method (a) to be the most reliable with much older projects, but with X3 you should be fine either way.

I would strongly recommend however, installing Cakewalk BandLab alongside X3. There's not a huge difference between them, but once you've started using things like ripple editing it's hard to remember how you managed without it.

That doesn't even make logical sense to me? What could X3 have that CbB would not have???
And now we can rule out that your giving projects to a buddy who only has X3 to work on because now everyone has the latest release. ( except for me :O)

Offline installers is one, which can be a big deal for some people.

X3 also only requires the serial number and authorization code, so you can truly do full off-line install.

The other being the fact that you can load the install files on a USB drive and install from there.  Bandlab requires a modern internet connection to download and install the package.  Not everyone has that, and there are no workarounds from what I've read.

Thanks so much for the many replies.  This gives me some more options to think about.  It's way past my bedtime now, so I'll install Bandlab tomorrow.  I'm particularly worried about the internet.   I'm having to downsize to one room.  I might not have the internet, at least for a while.  But that room will have some recording capabilities that the Beatles would have envied.  And now, I'll have the latest updated Sonar Platinum!

Hi Musicers, also check out Noveltech Character and Vocal Enhancer from Plugin Alliance for versatile saturation.
Would be nice if CakeLab came up back with a new-old goodie too, we have the Tube which is awesome in subtlety, we have the great and nasty Knob from Softube, why not RGC "aural exciter" in addition :)
