John
I have not had a problem moving tracks in Sonar.

Okay... I am apparently an idiot. You just gotta hover over the track icon and you get the drag arrow.

Thanks Craig... and really I do not need any extra help sabotaging myself. lol

Actually I could tell a little story of something ridiculously stupid I did recently trying to be clever with Sonar that is nuclear facepalm levels of "D'oh!" but it's far too embarrassing.

Moving on...

Create the tracks where you want them. Like excel and just about every other software application since man first sequenced the bit, in the area you want the track right click and create the track. If  in fact you want to rearrange, which we always do, then you have to find a handle and drag as they say.

You're not talking about the secret, backdoor routing of all Master Busses direct to the NSA that the Bakers added in Dorchester, are you?

The Track Icon actually seems like the best spot but that's if your track is expanded... Collapse the tracks and you're back in the labyrinth!

Share your embarrassing story with us! :D

After doing some work related stuff using this "new" found knowledge... yeah, it's still not ideal. If the Large icon disappears due to the track being too vertically small it becomes a bugger to drag them again. It would be nice if the SMALL icons did the same thing.

However if the tracks aren't COMPLETELY minimized vertically yet the large icon is hidden if you hover around approximately where the large icon WOULD appear them you can reliably get the up/down drag arrows.

As far as my embarrassing story...

nope... it would take a while to explain anyway and I gotta get some other stuff done.

Maybe later.

It might be because I use X2... I can move my tracks up and down in Track View, with the tracks collapsed no problem...

The hot spots to grab tracks is the same in X2 and the new SONAR.

They do. I didn't mention it because it seemed like you wanted a big target.

When a track is collapsed, the small icon takes up the full vertical height. You can't make a track hot spot any larger than the size of the track itself. Short of SONAR psychically divining when you want to move tracks, it seems there are plenty of easy options. If you're in a major track moving mode, there's always auto-zoom.

It would be better if the track name field was one of the hot spots (hovering the mouse cursor over it shouldn't show the little up/down arrow, though - it should just continue to show the pop-up for viewing the entire track name).
