I've recently downloaded some video demos with 5.1 audio and wanted to be able to review the audio in X3 so I could see the audio split into its 6 separate tracks.

is it possible to this or does the audio have to be 'Stripped' from the Video or is there already a utility that can do this ??

Here's how to import certain formats of multi channel audio into Sonar:

Failing the above, you will need to extract the audio from the video file first and then import the individual mono wave files into Sonar. It has been a few years since I did this, but there are plenty of free utilities that will do the job. Many are command line based and will take a little learning. Which one you choose will depend upon the format of the original audio. 'Tranzcode' as been around for years. 'Eac3to' is another. There will no doubt by now be others that have a more straightforward GUI as well. Google 'extract 5.1 audio' and you will be spoiled for choice.

Thanks for the link 'tenfoot' it was partially sucessfull.

I wasnt able to directly load in the audio from the 5.1 demo movies I'd downloaded in .mp4 format but it did load audio directly from a .mkv but only as 2 channel stereo.

I've analysed the file and it was supposed to be dts 6 channel audio, so I guess I may have to go the transcode  route
