My workflow is a bit on the weird side.

I import all of exports into an album project and do all of my mastering there.

BUT, I also have the same mastering chain in every project and I always mix into it. I find this gives me a very fine measure of consistency. I also mix to K-14 (metering on a pre-master buss without the mastering chain). This, so far, means all my tracks hit the album project at a similar level. As a consequence, all my track faders are at unity in the mastering project.

I export from my projects from the pre-master buss, thus bypassing the mastering chain.

I'm fortunate in that my computer can handle all of this processing without a glitch,

You can select the tracks you want to export, then go into Edit, and set the starting point and ending point of what you want to export - so with all tracks selected, you could set it to use an initial starting point of From Now, and the ending point to be Through the End.  So, if you set the Now Time Marker to say the third or fourth measure, and told Sonar to set the Export From the Now Time Marker, it would simply not include anything from before the setting of the Now Time Marker, and would then go through and export all the way to the end.

You can refer to the documentation on setting those in Export Audio and setting the Range of what will get exported.  It is super simply to do.

Hope that helps,

Hey partners.
Some GREAT tips there si I'll have to go through them all.
Jonesey , your CTRL + A worked great so I wont need to move the tracks after all.  I selected a range and exported to a WAV file.
Robert, i also didnt know about going to EDIT and being able to select the starting point so good tip bro.
Woody, Beepster , thanks s again.  I have the snap turned off (not really sure what that's used for as it interferes with you copy/paste).  That idea of exporting and then reimporting to a new project seems a brilliant idea.  I'll definitely try that.  If not on this project on the next one.
Keep the faith guys.    I see there is a very good book on X3 advertised on the site which I'll need to order.

Snap to grid helps alot when your composing instrumentals with all the instruments and drums and stuff, makes it easy to copy and paste how many measures and stuff that you want. Primarily for someone like me who does a lot of hip-hop style beats, the standard is 16 bar verse and 8 bar chorus, so i can easily tell with snap to grid how many i have on each section and move them and keep them within time without having to fine tune.
