Platinum is a dumb name, and that almost made me not want to upgrade.  What's after Platinum? Protactinium?  Silly.

Actually, according to what I've read, there is nothing after Platinum. It's the name of the CW's flagship DAW's ultimate version of SONAR.

IOW there will be no future naming like the past (.....8.5.3, X1, X2, X3).

That's how I read it

This made me laugh because in 2007 after driving Ford Tauruses for 15 years, Ford took the 500 and slapped a disgustingly ugly grill on it. This stuck out so much that I told the guy, "I realize this is only a $20 piece of plastic that I could easily replace, but it is the first impression anyone will have." There are reasons people have careers in "just" branding.

I upgraded Sonar X1, X2, and X3 but X2 and X3 screens are too dark so I still use X1 as I can custom the track colours easy so I don't think I shall upgrade any more as a home user IMOP.

Actually Cakewalk might change the name to "SONAR SuperMegaTurboPlatinumXUltraHyperElite" just to have people stop referring to it as "SPLAT" :-)

Platinum has "audio engine...improvements"?  Can you amplify?

I don't know whether the actual engine itself has been tweaked, or if the incremental improvements to other parts of the core program have had an effect, but the whole experience just seems a whole lot smoother, stable and so far, glitch free.

I get the impression it's both, and the combination adds up to an improved experience. Either that, or there's the software equivalent of WD-40 inserted somewhere in Platinum.

I used Pro Audio 9 until I could upgrade to Sonar 5 and get Sonar 6 as a free upgrade.

I upgraded every version since.

I can say the best upgrade to Sonar has been the X series. I saw what PA9 was, and then Sonar 8 Expanded really showed marked improvement.

But when the X series came out, I saw that CW was shedding the old in favor of the new.

I said it when Sonar Platinum came out, the Bakers have some plans. Their visions of four to five years ago are coming together.

Stay with X3e. But you will be missing out! I'm just saying.
